Sincerely,

Kindergarten
First Grade
Students came back this week very excited about their time at home during Thanksgiving break. We are so proud of the effort that they put forth on their IReady Diagnostic tests.
We will be sending home information this week about the STEM home science project that will be due in January. Please make sure you keep a lookout for these papers.
Second Grade
This week, our students have been learning about the character trait of the month, empathy. It is important to understand and share the feelings of others.
“Read S’more” Literacy Night will be held next Thursday. At the second-grade booth, students will make story structure fortune-tellers to help them with comprehension of fiction texts. We hope to see everyone there!
Third Grade
Third grade enjoyed listening to our guest author Silvia Lopez speak about her book Handimals.
Ms. Hurley’s class was super busy before Thanksgiving break. We had a great time building our own Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade floats with Mrs. Sokoloff’s class and had them on display during our 3rd grade feast. We celebrated our success with our multiplication fact fluency with our ice cream party. We also enjoyed learning how to find the average of a set of numbers with the feathers we collected during the Turkey Trot. We even make art masterpieces with our feathers!
Mrs. Sokoloff’s class enjoyed our field trip to Leu Gardens. We have been discussing inventions and inventors.
Next week will start i-Ready Reading and Math. Please make sure your child tries their hardest.
Fourth Grade
Fifth Grade
Sixth Grade
This week we are taking some time to review our expectations for behavior using the acronym CHAMPS. CHAMPS is used to outline the appropriate levels of Communication, how to ask for Help, what is the Activity, the appropriate level of Movement, how to Participate, and the Signal that the activity is ending. We appreciate your support in going over these expectations with your children. Please contact your teachers if you have questions or concerns.
In World History, Mr. Press’s classes will be studying Buddhism, China, and the Mongols between now and the end of the quarter. Mr. Lawrence’s classes completed Buddhism before Thanksgiving but will similarly be covering China and the Mongols. Both classes have received information about the History Bee and will be testing next week. This is not a grade, but a fun competition. The top performers will be invited to participate in a game show style competition. Links to resources to help you prepare are in a flyer that went home earlier this week and were also emailed to parents.
The Battle of the Beards is over and Mr. Thomas outlasted Mr. Press during No Shave November. Of course, no one can compete with Mr. Rego, but Mr. Thomas showed great determination.

STEM
3rd-5th
The students are continuing to work on their ExploraVision project. The end of November was the deadline to have a rough draft of the first three sections of History, Present, and Future. We are currently working towards Breakthroughs, Consequences, and Design Process. The next steps will be to do edits for a final draft and work on their mock webpages for the completion of the project then beginning of Feb.
2nd grade
We are working on position of objects using map skills. We will be working on a project that the students will be making a model of a section of the classroom. We will need donations of cereal boxes and other types of cardboard for the project!
staff commendations/staff character of the month

We are giving you the best way to do it!
Recognize any staff member(s) by giving them commendations using the following link. These messages can mean the world for a staff member and will help increase motivation.
Ms. Hurley and Mr. Lawrence both go out of their way to make sure that the learning that happens in their classroom is engaging and memorable. They both also are innovative and take on additional challenges in order for their students to the best year possible. Their innovative and positive spirits rub off on all the rest of us and we appreciate their contributions to our school. Orlando Science Schools would like to recognize both of them as the Staff Character of the Month for the month of OCTOBER

Traveling Orca
Our traveling Orca has been slowly making his way around campus. I am hoping that he makes it back to Building 2 next week. Please check out his blog with your class. It is updated weekly. The kids in the club would love to see some comments added to the posts! Make sure you play the Kindness theme song! It’s a catchy little tune 😊
