Academic Spotlight - First Communion - Ms. Zina
It is first communion time! There is a lot involved in preparing for first communion and Ms. Zina’s second grade class has been working hard to accomplish this milestone sacrament. All year students are preparing by learning prayers and learning about the sacrament of communion. On Saturday, the second graders will be in charge of their own mass so they have been preparing all the parts of this very special ceremony. Students have been working on how to walk in a procession into the church. Each student has a special job in the mass and students have been practicing the readings for the mass and prayers of the faithful. They have been rehearsing a class song using sign language and practicing how to bring the gifts up to the altar. Finally, they have been rehearsing how to receive communion and bless themselves properly. The second graders demonstrate their ability to host mass for the whole school on Tuesday, May 31st. Hosting mass is an important part of the routines at St. Bridget’s School. Each month a different class hosts the school wide mass and this gives the students an opportunity to be leaders in their school community. Students take pride in leading the singing for mass, preparing the readings, and welcoming people to mass.
