Weekly Update
Flambeau High School
From the Principal's Office
The prevalence of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites has somehow made life both simpler and more complex. I love Facebook because it allows me to easily remain in contact with friends from high school and college . The teachers here at Flambeau have heard me say that Twitter provides me with the best professional development I've ever had. There are many benefits of these sites for students, but the negative often gets the media headlines.
Students at Flambeau, as at every other school in the country, become victims of cyberbullying, post comments and pictures that they should not, and otherwise use these sites inappropriately. We are becoming more vigilant here at school in making sure these do not occur in the classroom, and we hope that you will have conversations with your student(s) about how to be safe and appropriate online!
Weekly Attendance Update
One of our goals this year for the Junior High and High School is to increase our attendance. Each week, we’ll take a look at our attendance data. Remember, research has proven that regular attendance at school is directly related to achievement!

This article, while from 2013, gives some valuable information to share with your student. Many students don't realize the impact of what they put on Facebook, Twitter, and other online resources.
Parent's Guide to Twitter:
Twitter has not risen to the same popularity as Facebook in our region. While Twitter rapidly spreads in social media, this article will help you to understand how you can protect your student's privacy.
Recipe Recommendation: Gingerbread Cookies
This week's recipe comes courtesy of Flambeau FFA member, Hannah Madlon. The Flambeau FFA, led by Mrs. Bernecker, baked cookies this week for their Teachers.
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup margarine
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
3 tsp soda
1/2 cup warm water
4 cup white flour
1 1/2 wheat flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp salt
Cream sugars, margarine, and eggs. Add molasses and mix well. Dissolve soda in water, stir into molasses mixture. Sift dry ingredients and stir in with a large spoon. Cover dough and chill for about 2 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll dough 1/3" thick on floured board. Cut with desired shapes. Place about 1 1/2" apart on a lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake til light brown, 8-10 minutes or just til no imprint remains when touched with finger. Do not over-bake or they will get hard.
Cool and frost with a regular butter cream or white icing. Decorate as desired.
