Principal's Letter for June 2023
Principal’s Message
I am using this message to say thank you to the teachers, staff, parents, and students for making this year truly unlike any other in the history of SRTMS. From the first day, it has been an enjoyable and unpredictable ride. All stakeholders have contributed to the inspiring experience. Here is a list of just some of the things we have accomplished together this year:
· A very expansive lunchtime sports program completely run by the ASB student.
· SRTMS cross country team represented the school well during the Ventura Cross Country League.
· The return of field trips for students.
· Second Step socio-emotional curriculum became part of the fabric of SRTMS. We also introduced the Peace Path, which will be fully implemented next year.
· A very successful Boosterthon (SOAR) Run Fundraiser.
· An expanded PE program using Student Connectedness funds.
· A new Computer Aided Learning elective that helps meet the needs of the diverse learners in the SRTMS middle school.
· The return of the SRTMS PTO Dinner, Dance, and Auction.
· Expanded PTO family nights including the reintroduction of the SRTMS Trunk or Treat.
· The implementation on WIN Time and Amplify Science for students at SRTMS.
· The return of Career Day for both elementary and middle school students.
· The resumption of YMCA PE to pre-pandemic levels.
· The construction of a new playground structure and new HVAC systems in every classroom.
· The introduction of the ASB elective so that even more students could be part of ASB. The ASB introduced many new activities and opened a student store.
· SRTMS becoming a recognized No Place for Hate school by the Anti-Defamation League.
· The SRTMS Tech Center became a true hub of video and audio production after some years of remodeling.
· The expanded use of the SRTMS Be the Joy Campaign to improve the socio-emotional environment of the school.
· The continued high number of student interest groups for middle school students, such as the hiking club. We also had an awesome History Fair once again.
· The adoption of the Computer Science Immersion program that will be implemented in the 2023-2024 school year.
· Continued SRTMS excellence in the Camarillo Independent Sports League, including a football championship.
· SRTMS continued with high levels of communication with the SRTMS community.
These are just a small sample of all the wonderful things that contribute to such an excellent learning environment for the students of SRTMS.
We will end this year with an exciting Open House on June 1. I can't wait to see all the student work and the families visiting in a festive atmosphere. Lastly, the year will end with a fun and exciting Promotion on June 14. We are very proud of our promoting eighth-grade students.
As you can see, we have achieved much together and I know the success will continue next year.
Eagle Pride,
Mr. Borchard
