The Weekly Word from CDS FP - October 8-12, 2018
Looking Back
Hello Everyone,
We had our Jogathon on Friday and it was great to see everyone having fun while exercising, showing good sportsmanship and collaborating in teams.
A big thank you to Mr. Tronsgard for all his work to prepare the Jogathon. Not just the day itself, but he has worked hard with the students to prepare for many weeks. Here are some questions for you to ask your child about running and fitness:
- What do you know about good technique with running?
- While you run, what can you think about regarding your feet? How about your arms?
- What do you concentrate on about your breathing?
- What is an example of a food and drink that one should not eat to help with exercise and performance? What should you eat to help your exercise and performance?
- How did you feel many weeks ago on the first day of running compared to the time just before the Jogathon?
- How have you as a person improved?
I think you will be impressed with the depth of the students' answers!
Thank you, also to the FP PTA for their support of the event with the refreshments. Thanks to Mr. Read, too; I hope you you enjoyed seeing FP art that was displayed on the first floor.
In the morning, many parents showed their curiosity by coming to the MAP session and asking questions about the children's learning. Thanks to all for showing your support and enthusiasm. Thanks also to Ms. Kim for answering parents' queries.
Reminder to all about next week - although there are several special things happening throughout the week, please remember that it is short week and there is no school on Friday because of the teacher inservice day.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring Art. Thank you, Mr. Read!
Art with Mr. Read
4th graders are learning different ways to show a main idea (emphasis) in a work of art. They created a composition of multiple figures in a variety of poses inspired by the artwork of Keith Haring. Students practiced drawing figures in proportion and in motion before making their final composition. They used the principles of design to guide their decision making, and reflected on ways that relationships of color and size create unity, balance, and contrast in their artwork.
Jae Hyun writes that, “I learn about art going slow and taking time; if I go fast then the project will be ruined. I now know that I’m good at art if I focus.”
