Updates from the Principal
Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great second week of E-Learning! Thank you to all of our families that attended Back to School Night last night. We had a great turn out! We are including our introductory video in this newsletter below if you were not able to attend. As always, check in with your team of teachers if you ever have any questions about what is taking place in your student's classes. We would be happy to help!
The Firebird Nation Staff has been working incredibly hard and I am so proud of all of their hard work. E-Learning is a challenging process for everyone and working to build relationships, start a school year, and begin the learning process all from a computer screen is a large challenge. Thank you to the entire Firebird Nation Community for your hard work and support! We want to make sure to recognize our staff members that have been going above and beyond. If there is a staff member that you would like to recognize for being a Firebird that RISEs together, we want to hear from you! Please use this Link to submit a recognition and we will make sure to honor them for their efforts. We also have a button below to submit these as well.
District 49 sent out communication yesterday for a new thought exchange related to our Return to Learn. We are hoping that September 14th will be the date that we begin having students return to the building for in-person learning as long as the county data continues to improve. FMS will continue to offer E-Learning as an option as well. We really need for our community and our students to participate in this Thought Exchange.
We have launched our FMS Daily News broadcasts this week! Teachers are streaming these live during their first period Zoom meetings; families can also watch from our FMS News YouTube Channel. Firebird students: We have also launched our regular Fireball awards again this year. You will see a link on your team landing pages and also at the top of our main. E-Learning Page. Thank you to Mr. Cochell and our Broadcasting classes for working to put these daily broadcasts together!
Sincerely,
Brian Smith

District 49 Return to Learn - Middle School Thought Exchange
On Wednesday, August 26, the Board of Education reviewed a proposal for middle and high school students to return to in-person learning. The proposal, along with the health conditions that support it, is included in the Thought Exchange online forum linked below.
Your important feedback will help us develop our best plan from these proposals. We also invite you to share this opportunity with your students, who we also invite to participate in this discussion.
Balancing safety, quality, and choice is difficult, but your thoughts and ratings give us the best possible chance to calibrate our decisions properly.
As always, we value your voice to help shape our planning process. Thanks for sharing your insights and priorities for our middle schools' return to learn.
It is important that we receive feedback from BOTH parents and students in this thought exchange.
