5th Grade Newsletter
September 21, 2015
Message to Parents
Warrior Walk: We have reached our goal of $17,000! We hope to break ground on the track in November. Thank you to all who participated in fundraising for our school track.
Our first field trip is coming up. We are going to Buford Dam on Thursday, October 1, 2015 and then having lunch at Fish Tales. The cost is $6.00 for lunch, and permission slips went home in Monday folders today.
PTO is requesting that each grade level collect donations for a themed basket for a silent auction for the fall festival. Fifth grade has chosen to do a girl's basket and a guy's basket. Please send in items that you would like to donate for either basket.
Class t-shirts will be here next week. We believe that we will be able to pass them out to students on Tuesday. We would like for all students to wear their shirts on the Buford Dam field trip.
Social Studies:
We are finishing up the Bill of Rights. Projects need to be completed and turned in as soon as possible. We will be transitioning to our Civil War unit this week.
Reading News:
Continue to read and complete book reviews. The book reviews need to be accessed from a Hall County computer because it records their responses in a Google Doc for the homeroom teacher to track.
Math News:
This week in math we will learn how to multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals by powers 10s, 100s, 1000s. Video home work is every Monday,Tuesday and Thursday. We will have a math quiz on Friday.
Writing News:
The students are working on completing the first round of narrative writing and publishing their work. This week we will focus on telling more in-depth stories, memoirs, to raise the level of writing. We will work through the writing process much more quickly since we have completed the first round.
