A note from Mrs. Hayden
I have also embedded my first screencastify video to this newsletter to introduce the Destiny Online Catalog to you. I hope you find it helpful!
Have a great break if I don't see you before the 21st and keep reading!
Mrs. Hayden
Paper Rolls
When you finish a roll of paper on the rack in the library, please leave a note for Mrs. Woo or myself telling us what color has run out. It helps me so I can see if I have that same color in the storage room or if I need to order it.
Thanks in advance!
Research, Research, Research
1. Come visit with me and discuss what your thoughts/plans are. My goal is to make sure you have the resources you need and if I don't have enough, to purchase those materials.
2. Email Mrs. Woo and I with the topics you need materials on. We can always pull materials for you in advance and deliver them to your room.
3. Don't forget that we have World Book Online available to all students and staff. Go to www.worldbookonline.com. The logon is mpcshome and the password is mpcs07. Students and teachers are able to access this resource from both school and home.
4. Finally, in the MPES Library Information folder I included information for students on how to create citations for bibliographies (works cited) for their projects. I plan on introducing this to 5th grade after Winter Break. 3rd and 4th grade, I am happy to introduce this for you on an as needed basis. Just let me know so I can create the lesson plan.
Reading Levels
If you would like to me to help you monitor their reading levels, please send me a report or spreadsheet with their names and levels. I will do my best to make sure they are leaving with books they can read. Please note that I may not be able to get to everyone. You are always welcome to come down during the last 10-15 minutes of class to help monitor your students' reading levels. Your help and patience is appreciated as we all relearn this process.
Destiny Online Catalog
Go to destiny.mpark.net and make sure to click on Manassas Park Elementary School. If there is a resource you need and one of the other schools has it, just let me know and I will be happy to ask for it to be sent over to you.
See the video below for other features you may find useful.
Just because it's at the bottom, doesn't mean it's not important...
Over the years that number has decreased and last year we had over 18,000 checkouts. My goal is to increase that by 10% to over 20,000 checkouts by the end of the year. So, I humbly ask you to look at our online catalog or talk to Mrs. Woo or myself. We have some great resources, read-alouds, and professional materials that I would love to see used. Your checkouts from this library count just as much as the books the students get. Look for some highlights from me when we return from Winter Break!
