Monthly Events Of Wildcats: October 2018

Principal's Message

Goal Setting & Data Chats

Monitoring a student's progress throughout the school year is key to success. Starting in mid/late October we will have data chats and goal setting sessions with students. During these conversations, students will learn what their Florida State Assessment (FSA) score represents, how they can "level up," and how to design an academic goal for themselves. In addition, we will be monitoring students' progress towards their goal throughout the school year by looking at the strategies students are using and their class grades.

Wildcat Binders

We hope that the Wildcat binders are assisting students and families with keeping better organized. In an effort to get feedback and make adjustments for second semester, we are asking parents to please complete this five question survey related to the student Wildcat Binder. We will be asking students to complete a similar survey as well.

Quarterly Checks

Students participate in Quarterly Checks for their four core academic classes during the last two weeks of each quarter throughout the school year. These district developed assessments are intended to inform us on the progress students are making with regards to learning the content standards. Students will take their Quarterly Checks during a 50 minute class period. We will be starting the first quarter's Quarterly checks on Thursday, October 4.

Report Cards

Parents will access student report cards, through their MyStudent account. For you to have full access to these reports as well as your students attendance, grades, test scores and class assignments, you need to Register for a "Parent MyStudent" account. Here is a step-by-step video to assist you with this process. Please communicate with your child's teachers when you have a question, are looking for help, or have a concern about an assignment or their grades.

Campus Activities:

Opportunity Hall

Does you student need help with homework or simply a designated time/location to study? Have them sign up and attend our "Opportunity Hall" every Wednesday, from 3-4:30pm in the TEWMS Media Center. For more information visit here. Although this is not a tutoring service, there are two teachers present to assist students. If you would like for your student(s) to participate, please complete the registration form.

TEWMS Student Congress

We are excited to kick off our Student Congress this month! Student Congress is comprised of one student representative from each team who will work closely with Administration and other support staff to discuss and share ways to improve our school collectively. They will meet every other Thursday during Study Hall and will plan school wide activities such as Red Ribbon Week, yearlong bullying prevention and other activities that unify and support diversity on our campus (specific details will be shared via website and student news show). We want to encourage and promote all students, staff, and the community to embrace our motto of #WildcatsMakingADifference!

Bringing Smiles to WC

Bringing Smiles to WC is a student based club that focuses on building character within while also bringing cheer to the community. They will be making cards and putting together little gift bags which include donations from the community. On October 6, we will be recognizing two Wesley Chapel citizens who go above and beyond to help our community: C. Wirt and J. Ames. In addition, we will be thanking Fire Station 13 for all of their services and showing our appreciation for all they do for our community.

Pep Rally

On Friday, October 12, we will have our first pep rally for the 2018-2019 school year. During this pep rally we will be celebrating our Football team, Volleyball team, and our Cheerleaders. In addition, we will hear from the Wildcat Band.

Gallup: Student Poll

All students in Pasco County are encouraged to participate in the Gallup Student Poll. The online survey measures the engagement, hope, entrepreneurial aspiration, and career and financial literacy of students in grades five through 12. TEWMS students will take the Gallop Student Poll starting October 16. All school Gallup results are shared through the district website.

Boys Soccer Try outs

Tryouts for the boys soccer team will occur on October 22 and October 23 on the Soccer field. Please have students talk with Coach Mine should they have any questions or concerns. All students must have a physical turned in prior to trying out for the team. Such documents may be found in the office.

6th grade Health Screenings

On Thursday, October 25, our 6th grade students will be called down by team to participate in Health Screenings. The health screening includes screening for scoliosis, height, weight, vision and hearing. Have students wear glasses/contacts on this day, if applicable. If you do not want your student to participate in the health screening, please send in a written note to your child's 1st period teacher on or before October 25. WRHS nursing students will come on campus to assist with these screenings. If you wish for your student to not participate, please complete and return the parent opt-out form.

Halloween Dance

Come join the fun at our Halloween Costume Dance Party on Friday, October 26 from 6 - 8pm. Students are able to wear costumes to the dance only. Costumes may not include: masks covering the full face, blood, core, and leave the clowns at home. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
