8 Tips for a Successful School Year
TIP #1 Set Expectations
Set expectations for how you desire students to behave in your classroom with rules and procedures. What is your rule for food in the classroom? What is the rule for electronic devices? What is your procedure for allowing students to go to the bathroom? The teacher is the only one to set the classroom rules and procedures. It will take a little time for students to get used to your expectations, but just keep reinforcing them. Don't give up, most students will eventually follow them.
TIP #2 Be On Time For Your Job
TIP #3 Plan Your Lessons
TIP #4 Write Objectives On Your Whiteboard
Content Objectives?
If you don't write them, at least tell them.
Language Objectives?
CIF strategies?

TIP #5 Rigorously Review Academic Vocabulary? ALL of our students need this....not just our ESL students!

Draw a picture of the vocabulary word
Use the vocaulary word in a sentence
Organize vocabulary words for studying
TIP #6 Keep Up With Grades
TIP #7 Ask For Help!

Tip #8 Students will test you!
Something I always keep in mind was, "If their parent walked up behind me without me knowing, would I be worried or embarrassed?"
