Jackson eNews
Hello Jackson Families!
We had a great week discussing anti-bullying strategies that incorporate kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Our Unity Tree is looking amazing! I am loving the ways our Jaguars have learned to support a friend that is being bullied.
Whew--looking ahead, next week is full of activities you don't want to miss!
- October 24-28 - Red Ribbon Week, flyer for themed dress-up days below.
- October 24-26 - 5th Grade Adventure Camp. We can't wait to hear all about their outdoor learning (and fun) camp experiences!
- Tuesday, October 25 - Jackson Spirit Day at Taverna Rossa starts at 11:00 a.m. and lasts all day until closing at 10:00 p.m. You can dine in or order online for carry-out orders--just tell the staff you are ordering for Jackson Elementary Spirit Day and a portion of the proceeds will come back to Jackson PTA!
- Thursday, October 27 - 1) School Picture Retake Day; 2) Colgate Dental Van at Jackson, 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. Bring parental consent form to the event to participate; 3) Multicultural Night, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
- Friday, October 28 - Book Character Parade. As part of Red Ribbon dress up days, students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character to "Show GOOD CHARACTER and be drug free! "The parade will go through each hall and pick up a grade level to join the parade. No props (swords, shields, etc.) and nothing scary. MUST be school appropriate.
On November 11, we will be celebrating Veterans' Day with a school-wide assembly. Ashley Manley, one of our terrific PTA moms, will put together a slide show of pictures of Veterans that belong to our Jaguar families. If you would like to share a picture of a family member that is a Veteran, please send it by email to: manleyfamilytx@gmail.com.
Parents--we need your input! To better meet the needs of our students and community, we invite you to complete the parent survey below. We appreciate your support!
Have a great weekend!

Multicultural Night - Thursday, October 27

Colgate Dental Van
We have some great news to share!
On Thursday, October 27, the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® mobile van unit will visit our school from 2:30 - 6:30 p.m.! During this visit, the BSBF team will provide free dental health and well-being education, conduct visual dental screenings and teach your child how to take care of their bright smile. Your child will be screened by an oral health professional and will receive a new toothbrush, toothpaste sample, brushing chart, and list of offices for dental care if needed. This visual dental screening does not replace a regular dental check-up and visit.
The MVU maintains important safety procedures which include:
- The BSBF team wear proper protective gear, including mask, gloves, gown, face shield and/or goggles.
- All volunteers, workers, and students wear a mask before entering the screening area on the mobile unit.
- Upon entering the MVU, BSBF staff will provide your child with a disposable mask.
- The mobile unit is wiped down with disinfectant between students and cleaned completely with disinfectant at night.
In order for your child to participate in the Colgate mobile van's dental screening event, please complete the parental consent form that was sent home with your child (also available at the link below) and bring the completed consent form to the event.

Veterans' Day Assembly and Wall of Honor
On November 11, we will be celebrating Veterans' Day with a school-wide assembly. Ashley Manley, one of our terrific PTA moms, will put together a slide show of pictures of Veterans that belong to our Jaguar families. If you would like to share a picture of a family member that is a Veteran, please send it by email to: manleyfamilytx@gmail.com.
We would also like to create a special tribute for the Veterans that are family members of Jackson students and staff by creating an honorary "brick" wall with the Veterans’ names and service branch. Flyers with the tribute brick template will be sent home next week.
Please return the completed brick(s) to school and turn them in to the office. We will start posting the "bricks" as soon as they are returned. The deadline to turn in the bricks is Friday, November 4th. We want to have our Wall of Honor ready for our Veterans' Day celebration!
We hope to acknowledge the Veterans of families in our Jackson community as well as celebrate all Veterans who have, so proudly, served our country.
OCTOBER FITNESS CALENDAR
Our awesome P.E. coaches are sharing a monthly calendar with fitness challenges and other activities that promote the development of motor skills, physical fitness, and social skills. These activities can be done at home with family or friends. Have fun with fitness!
Counselors' Corner
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the website/program, Character First Education. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, keychain and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal!
The trait for October is Self-Control. We will be discussing what self-control means and how students can exhibit the trait during classroom community circles. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!

Dads can volunteer for as little as an hour on their day to help monitor recess, lunches, and outdoor/gym activities.
To get started, fill out a PISD Volunteer Application online. Once approved, use the PTA WATCH D.O.G.S. Calendar link (https://www.jacksonpta.com/volunteer/94352) to select your volunteer time.
