All About Alex
Meet your new Career Center Team Assistant!
Well, hello there!
Let me introduce myself! My name is Alex Amling and I am so excited to be working with all of you fine people at the Career Center this semester. I am a 4th year Advertising major and Communication Studies minor born and bred in the peach state with the goal of going into an account management role at a top advertising agency come May. Currently, I am serving on the executive board of UGA HEROs, a student organization on campus that fundraises for quality of life care for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, which has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had since stepping foot on campus. Hmmm... what else? Well, I love a good nap on a rainy afternoon, reruns of The Office, the fries with the raspberry ketchup from Trapeze, and I happen to have a bucket list the size of the Declaration of Independence that I hope to complete before I kick the bucket.
With all of that being said, I want to let you all know why I am so thrilled to be working at the Career Center specifically. Since before I even got my acceptance letter to college (or maybe even straight out of the womb) my mom has told me, "You are going to school to get a J.O.B.," and I have always taken that direction to heart. It's why I chose to come to UGA, it's why I landed on the major and minor that I have, and it's why I stepped through the doors of Clark Howell Hall my first semester of freshman year. I am a firm believer that those who do the bare minimum, receive the bare minimum. It is not enough to come to college and focus solely on academics. Students need to look beyond graduation and take every opportunity available to them. Throughout my time on UGA's campus, I have tried to do just that. Through both the Career Center and Grady College, I have had opportunities to network with potential employers, shadow people in my field, prepare for interviews, gain valuable internships, participate in modules and workshops, and always felt like I was on the right track. It's all about choices, and my choices have lead me to where I am now, confident that I will not only have a job right out of college, but that I will love the job I have right out of college.
I am excited to embark on this new challenge with the Career Center and aid everyone here as the new team assistant. I love that this position will give me experience on a lot of different tasks in a lot of different areas and I hope I will be working closely with a number of you soon. If you have anything you need help with, please feel free to reach out to me or Brittany Smith and I will get to it as soon as I can. I hope this post gave you an small insight into who I am and I plan on getting to know you all better soon.
xoxo,
Alex
P.S. Fun/weird fact about me: I am terrified of claymation movies. Can't watch them. The last time I saw Wallace and Gromit I had nightmares for weeks. I'm weird, I know.
