We are looking forward to a great race this year and a fun afternoon raising money for Bear-ly Moving and the MES PTA. Race entries are coming in and the race details appear to coming together. We will need about 25-30 volunteers to help the week of the race (stuffing race packets, set up) and RACE DAY (packet pick up/registration, course marshals, water station, etc.). If you are interested, please contact Lisa Woolard at

Sign up to volunteer at the Mashburn Fiesta Book Fair, May 2-7, 2014! We can use your help!

Congratulations to the Mashburn Science Olympiad Team!

On Saturday, April 12th 18 members of the Mashburn’s Science Olympiad Team competed in its first ever competition. This regional competition pitted our Mashburn Maniacs against students from 17 other local elementary schools. Our first-year Mashburn Maniacs earned medals and ribbons against much more experienced teams. We are thrilled to announce that Mashburn placed sixth in the overall competition. The team was only 15 points from earning an invitation to the state competition. We are so proud of these participants and our entire Science Olympiad Team! The medal winning events were: Deep Blue Sea-3rd Place, Don't Bug Me-4th Place, Grab a Gram-5th Place, Mystery Architecture-2nd Place, Paper Rockets-10th Place, Rock Hound-4th Place, Simple Machines-10th Place, Straw Egg Drop-2nd Place, Straw Towe-3rd Place, and Water Rockets-3rd Place.

This week second graders are getting hands on experiences with science as they learn how people and animals affect the environment. Special thanks to Mr. Kevin Smith from Keeping Forsyth County Beautiful for demonstrating how important it is to reduce, reuse, and recycle to better take care of the environment around us!
