Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
AHOY, PIRATES!
George Couros in his blog post, "Maintaining 'First Day' Excitement" stated, "The first day and the last day of school for each year are the ones that are often most celebrated, but the days in between are the ones that often matter most. It will always be hard to maintain that “first-day excitement,” but it doesn’t mean we don’t try." He continued in another edition of his blog, "Always err on the side of positive. Any person can have an impact, so your best bet is to try to make it a positive one."
As we come off the high of the beginning of the year, the leadership team and I want to encourage each of you to reflect on what it means to our students for us to maintain that level of excitement and momentum that we had at the beginning of the year. If we are to end strong, we must also remember to pace ourselves to keep from running out of steam. Check out the principals' logs this week; they have very motivational messages.
We are off to a great start! You are delivering on the vision, and our students are living the beliefs! Thank you! With that, I submit the Captain’s Log. #2020vision #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot cje

Students Advocate for Dress Code Changes, Reduces Female Focus
You find yourself in a meeting with six well-prepared high school students listening to them advocate for themselves in a very powerful and profound way. (Kudos to the teachers and parents who helped them learn this skill!) The meeting lasted approximately an hour, and the young ladies tied all points to our beliefs and vision in a manner that was - well - quite refreshing. Thank you to Ms. Bang, Mrs. Cooper, and Mr. West for helping the students wordsmith and understand the adult point of view related to workplace attire. Let us all continue to be good role models for them. We are preparing to take the following changes to the board:
Item 7
FROM: Shorts, dresses, and skirts must be no shorter than fingertip length at the shortest part of the garment when arm is straight down.
TO: Length of shorts, skirts, and dresses must be school appropriate and non-revealing. Shirts must not exceed the length of the shorts and skirts. (Language taken from Long Beach High School)
Item 9
FROM: Leggings/jeggings/tights/yoga pants may be worn with the appropriate length skirt or shorts but not under a shirt that is not fingertip length.
TO: Opaque leggings/jeggings/yoga pants may be worn with a shirt that fully covers the front and back sides.
Outtake: During the meeting, we learned that there is a such thing as meggings. Some districts address meggings in a similar fashion as leggings.
