October Already!

Greetings North Warren!

It's hard to believe a month has passed since we welcomed students back to school. Everyone is settling into the routine of the school day and the classrooms are abuzz with students learning. In fact, students themselves are reporting that not having cell phones in classes and in the hallways has made them more focused and even makes the day go faster. All of our sports teams are up and running, the marching band won their first competition, the theater program has begun rehearsing for the fall play, and clubs and activities are meeting regularly and planning events for the upcoming months. We are off to a great start!

October is going to be a busy month, so please continue reading to find out what's to come.

State Testing Information

The New Jersey Department of Education is once again requiring New Jersey schools to administer the Start Strong assessment. The Start Strong assessments:

  • are based on a subset of prioritized prior-year academic standards;
  • will provide immediate results to educators;
  • will include the same accessibility features and accommodations as the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA);
  • are required for English Language Arts for students in grades 4 - 10, Mathematics for students in grades 4 - 8 and students currently enrolled in Algebra I, Algebra II, or Geometry, and Science for students in grades 6, 9, and 12.

North Warren will administer the Start Strong assessments on Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12. Make up tests are scheduled for the week of October 17. The assessments are administered electronically; therefore, it is imperative that students bring their fully charged Chromebooks to school.

In addition to the Start Strong assessments, North Warren will administer the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) to all 11th grade students, the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) in English Language Arts and Mathematics for students in grades 7 - 9, and the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) in Science for students in grades 8 and 11. The testing window for each test, including make up dates, are listed in the table below.
