Broad Street Newsletter
February 2022
A message from Ms. Alexander, Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
MASD schools practice secure in place and/or lockdown procedures when conducting a security drill. Schools are required to conduct one emergency drill within the first 90 calendar days of the school year in place of a fire drill and a second security drill during the second semester.
Broad Street Elementary will be conducting emergency drills following these guidelines throughout the year. If you have specific questions about these drills, please consult the student handbook.

Winter Weather Information & Make-Up Days
As the season grows colder, we look ahead to more winter weather impacting our school schedule. This year the Mechanicsburg Area School District is using two different types of days - traditional make-up days and Flexible Instructional Days. To date we have used 2 of our 3 traditional make-up days:
- Make Up Day 1 - April 13 - School was closed due to Hurricane Ida on September 1
- Make Up Day 2 - June 10 - School was closed on Friday, January 7
- Winter Weather Day 3 - If we have a third day off, we will make-up that day of school in-person on April 14th. There will be no remote activities on the cancelled day.
- Additional Closures - we will utilize Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) for any additional school closures. This will involve students engaging in remote learning on the inclement weather day. See the LINK to the winter weather plan/schedule for Broad Street.
2 Hour Delays:
- A reminder that we do not serve breakfast when we operate on a 2 hour delay schedule.

Specialist Spotlight - Phys Ed (Ms. Cremo)
Hello! I’m Carole Cremo and I am one of 2 physical education teachers here at Broad Street. I have a personal passion for physical activity and love sharing my passion with the students at Broad Street. In physical education class, students are exposed to a wide variety of physical skills and are always moving their bodies. Students enjoy trying new activities and improving their skills. We are currently working with both long and short jump ropes.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy running, hiking, biking and visiting my adult children. All five of my children have graduated from Mechanicsburg. They currently live all across the United States from California to Virginia If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at cacremo@mbgsd.org. Thank you for the opportunity to share my love of moving with your children!
