Mrs. Gain's Gazette
Volume 1, Week 6; September 4, 2023
News from Room B105
Welcome back after the long weekend. I hope you enjoyed the 3-day weekend and were able to take some time to relax and enjoy the weather!
We will focus on the following academic behaviors this week during morning meeting: growth mindset, choosing strategies, and grit. Students will also be setting goals and creating action plans to achieve their goals. They will share these goals with you at Parent-Teacher Conferences. Learning about academic behaviors, growth mindset, and goal setting will prepare the students to tackle academic challenges successfully.
In Reading, we will begin reading Love That Dog by Sharon Creech, and we will again focus on having a figurative great heart. During this book study, we will also read and analyze famous poems along with the main character, Jack.
During math this week, we will continue Bridges Unit 2 where we will focus on multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers using models and quick-sketches. We will continue our Energy unit in Science.
It's going to be a quick, four-day week full of learning and excitement in Room B105. Please email me or send me a Parent Square message if you have any questions. Thank you!

Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-Up
Dear Families,
Open lines of communication are extremely important for your child's academic success. Because of this, all Avon K-8 schools have chosen to reinstate in-person Parent-Teacher Conferences this school year.
If you would like to have an in-person conference with me before Fall Break, please choose a 15-minute time slot between 12:45 pm and 6:40 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Please view the sign up list on ParentSquare and find a convenient time for us to meet.
I understand that your time is valuable. If you are unable to meet in-person and would prefer to communicate virtually on Zoom or over the phone, please send me a Parent Square message so we can schedule a separate conference time.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me a Parent Square message or leave me a voicemail. I am looking forward to meeting with you and sharing about your child’s successes.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gain
Friday Folders & Weekly Behavior Chart
Reminder:
On Friday, your child should have brought home a green Friday Folder that contained graded papers, flyers, and his/her weekly behavior chart. Please sign the behavior chart and have your child return his/her folder to school on Monday. Your child’s behavior must be signed and returned by Tuesday to receive “credit” for the previous week’s leaves to spend at the “Maple Market” at the end of the grading period.
Pioneer Days at the OLC
The 4th graders are going to participate in Pioneer Days at the Outdoor Learning Center. The students will have access to 5 interactive stations throughout the OLC that will give them a glimpse of what life might have been like in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This event will help cover Early Indiana social studies learning standards. Since the OLC is in our backyard there will be no traveling involved and volunteers will sign in at the Maple office.
In order for this to be a successful event we need volunteers. The sign up has been broken down into morning and afternoon times. Feel free to sign up for both times if you have time in your schedule for the whole day. BONUS: You can have lunch with your learner! Lunch and recess are from 12:50-1:40. VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE AN APPROVED BACKGROUND CHECK ON FILE.
The schedule for classes is below so you can sign up and see your learner throughout the day. If you can volunteer on multiple days it would be appreciated.
9/8 - Mrs. Miner, Mrs. Steckbeck
9/14 - Mrs. Britton, Mrs. Wilson
9/15 - Mrs. Gain, Mrs. Gongwer, and Mrs. Toney
