NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR WEEK
This week is National School Counselors' Week. Let's celebrate all the wonderful contributions that our counselor, Catherine Cooper gives to our school. Think of how your grade level/class can provide Catherine with a special thank you and provide her with your thank you sometime this week. Thanks to NAESP for sharing a list of the many ways counselors help schools.
- School counselors are employed in public and private schools to help students reach their full potential; and
- School counselors are actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development; and
- School counselors help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal and social growth of their children; and
- School counselors work with teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves; and
- School counselors seek to identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement comprehensive school counseling programs and help students become productive members of society; and
- Comprehensive developmental school counseling programs are considered an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school;

FAREWELL TO MS. NANNI: There will be a social beginning at 5:00 for Ms. Nanni's Farewell! She will be moving to Texas- the Lone Star State should be warned!! We will miss her greatly and hope you can make it to Rudino's on Strickland Road.
WCPSS MULCH DELIVERY: Wake County will be delivering mulch on Monday. Their plan is to place this in our parking lot at the end of the parking lot at the far right. Please avoid parking in the parking spots on the right side (north side) of the parking lot on Monday. After the mulch has been delivered you my move your car to the right side.
LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING 2/8: We will be doing a quarterly review of our grade level data this Thursday. Please refer to Kayla's emails to be sure you are prepared to share your grade level data.
EARLY RELEASE DAY: This Friday will be set aside working on and hopefully completing our last Global badge. PTA will be providing lunch after student dismissal and then a PLT PD worksession. If you have any questions please touch base with your global team rep or Heather Shipley, global team chair.
DREAMBOX WEBINAR FEEDBACK: We'd like your feedback on last Wednesday's Dreambox webinar. Please discuss and complete this survey at this week's PLT. Thanks.
CONSIDERATION OF RETENTION FORM: Please complete the consideration of retention form with any students that should be considered for retention at this time. Tracks 1, 2 and 4 need to complete their form by this Friday, February 9. Track 3 needs to have this completed by next Friday, February 16th. Students on the list should have a Tier plan and parents should be aware of your concerns. List each area of concern as modeled on Google sheets form. If you have any questions please alert Lara or me.
INTENT FORM: It's that time of the year that we need to know what your plans are for next year. Tracks 1,2, and 4 should complete your Intent Form by this Friday. Track 3 needs to have this completed by next Friday, February 16th.
PROGRESS MONITORING: Mid-Year data is in. As a result of great teaching, collection of data, differentiation and progress monitoring most of our mid-year data is looking pretty good. In order for the proficiency and growth to continue as well as for us to be prepared for Intervention Team and IEP Meetings it is ESSENTIAL that all grade levels use strategies listed on PEPs and consistently progress monitor. Please do a self assessment within your team to confirm your intervention/enrichment plan is in place.
STAFF MEETING DATE CHANGE: This month's Staff Meeting date has changed to, Thursday 2/22.
COMMUNICATION: Communication is key to success. If you have something to report, please let us or your teammates know. If you need to know something and want to know, please ask. If you need help please ask us or those around you. All of us can benefit at this time of year from a reminder that even though we are busy- even though some things are unpleasant to relay or are difficult to put into words- the effort and trust it takes to do so is worth it.
SECURITY: This is a reminder to lock doors when you leave the classroom and to secure valuables. There have been several thefts recently while teachers were not in classrooms. We have been able to solve the mystery this last time thanks to Detective Britt and Interrogators that shall not be named! Please report any thefts to the office and/or any reports of students with items or actions that seem suspicious (kids eating a lot of candy and it isn't a holiday, kids passing out items to friends, wearing or bringing expensive items unrelated to school like jewelry etc...) Thanks for your help.
