Reminders and Updates

We hope that you enjoyed your day and loved the card that your child made for you.

NYS Capital Building Field Trip

Our field trip to the Capital Building and Corning Tower was fun and educational!

Thanks to Raven and Sydney's uncle and Aiden's uncle, Mrs. Lange's class had a very special opportunity on the Senate floor. While we were taking our tour, the Senate was in session. Our Senators were making May 5th officially "West Point Day" in New York. During the ceremony, our State Senator Kathy Marchione (representing our district) announced our class on the Senate floor! I wasn't able to upload the video but you can see it on the Moreau Elementary Facebook page and it should be on the SGF website sometime this week.

In addition, we were greeted by Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner on the Million Dollar Staircase. She spoke to our class and then we had our photo taken with both of these ladies. (see press release link below) It was a wonderful experience and we are so thankful to have had the opportunity.

Although Mrs. Pisani and Mrs. Reinemann's class had their tour of the Capitol at a later time and missed out on meeting Kathy Marchione and Carrie Woerner, they still had a fantastic time! Thanks to Mrs. Reinemann's friend who works at the Capitol building, we were able to visit the Senate Chamber after the senators had wrapped up for the day and locked the doors! We really enjoyed visiting the Observation Deck of the Corning Tower also! We hope that you enjoy our pictures!

We are starting lesson 4 tomorrow in Module 6 - DECIMALS. So far, it seems like our students are transferring what they learned from fractions to help them with decimals.

The State Science Test is right around the corner. We will be finishing our last topics - transfer of energy, friction and simple machines. At the same time, we will be reviewing everything our students have learned in science from kindergarten to 4th grade!

Historical Fiction Book Clubs (Reader's Workshop)

Our Book Clubs are off and running! We have been focusing mainly on how to work cooperatively in groups and developing basic rules to follow when discussing a book in a group. It is a skill that they do not have a lot of experience with so it has been a learning experience for everyone. Many groups are already finishing their first book and moving on to their second.

You should be seeing their "Book in a Bag" come home EVERY night!

Writer's Workshop Revolutionary War Books

After a week of technical difficulties with the Chromebooks, we didn't get as far as we had hoped to finish our Revolutionary War books. We have extended the due dates by a few days:

MRS. LANGE'S CLASS - Books due Wednesday

MRS. PISANI'S CLASS - Books due Friday

Government in Action

We are beginning our next unit all about Government! We were so lucky to be able to spend a day seeing the center of our NYS Government when we visited the Capitol Building! Our unit will begin by studying the three parts of the Constitution. Our first part-the PREAMBLE-describes why our new country needed a government back when we were a brand new country! We will be breaking down all of the phrases of the Preamble by putting each phrase into our own words and then illustrating what each phrase means. We will then be turning the illustrations into a beautiful display of the Preamble. Pictures will be coming soon!
