Standards Based Learning (SBL)
October 2020 Edition
MIDTERM GRADES
Your student has received a midterm grade, these grades are based on the evidence that has been provided at this point. Just like with a traditional grading system, this grade will continue to evolve and change based on the evidence throughout the rest of the semester. Our goal continues to be focused on student learning and providing multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding throughout the semester.
*PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE TO OUR COURSE GRADE TABLE SHOWN BELOW. WE HAVE ADJUSTED THE REQUIREMENTS FOR AN A.
RUBRICS
Rubrics will be located in CANVAS for each unit. The rubric will identify the skill they are working on and the grading scale associated with that skill (4, 3, 2, 1). The rubric will also identify the criteria that relates to that skill in the unit. Below is an example of a Physical Science rubric used during Unit 1.
PROGRESS GRADES
*We have adjusted how we will send progress grades to give more feedback on each individual skill throughout each unit. We will no longer use the (AG, MG, FG) we will use the system below.
SKILL GRADES
Skills grades are reported under the "Skills" category in JMC and are determined by the final evidence a student provides for each unit based on the scales provided. Students will have multiple opportunities throughout the semester to provide evidence for each skill.
FINAL COURSE GRADE
At the end of the semester, we will use all the evidence of learning provided by the student to determine an overall score for each skill. Then we will use our table below to determine the overall course grade.
