STAAR TEST INFO
Dear Parents:
The purpose of this letter is to give information about the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). Our testing will occur Monday, May 13, 2019, Tuesday, May 14, 2019, and Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
The following is the testing schedule:
May 13: 3rd & 4th grade Math; 5th grade Math retest
May 14: 3rd & 4th grade Reading; 5th grade Reading retest
May 15: 5th grade Science
Our teachers and students have been working diligently to prepare for these state assessments. In order to promote a positive performance please adhere to the following:
- Millsap will be closed to visitors for Monday, May 13th Tuesday, May 14th, and Wednesday, May 15th. Please try to avoid early dismissals for personal reasons.
- Please arrive on time. Testing will begin promptly at 9 a.m.
- To accommodate testing, our lunch and instruction schedules for all grade levels have been altered. We encourage you to plan ahead to purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring a sack lunch. To minimize distraction, we discourage lunch deliveries on testing days.
- We highly encourage electronic devices be left at home. Electronic devices include cell phones, iPads, Apple watches and other similar devices. They are not allowed in testing administration areas.
- No tutoring or other before and after school activities will occur on both testing days.
Most importantly the following strategies can help your child be successful on STAAR:
- Encourage your student to get a good night’s rest
- Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast
- Encourage your student to arrive on time
Thank you for all your support.
Sincerely,
Joy Dauphin

Any medication that is not picked up will be disposed of by the nurse according to district guidelines.

Library books are due by Wednesday, May 15th
Can’t find your book?
Try to remember the last place you read it.
What does the book look like? Was it big or small? Thick or thin?
If you can’t remember, ask the librarian for a print-out of the book so you know what you’re looking for.
Here is a list of actual places kids have found their missing library books:
In the car
On top of the refrigerator
Under the couch
Under their bed
In the laundry basket
In their brother’s or sister’s room
In a toy box
In the bathroom
At Grandma's house
Inside a drawer
On a bookshelf
In a shoe box
In the garage
Between the bed and the wall
At school, in their desk cubby
On a teacher’s shelf
On the bus
In their backpack
If the book still cannot be found, it must be purchased. Our Librarian will send home a notice with the price of the replacement cost if it is lost. Once the book is paid for, your child will be able to continue checking out library books.
If at any time the book is found in good condition, a full refund will be issued.
Good luck!
Counselor's Corner
Our value this month is perseverance. Perseverance means refusing to give up when life gets hard. Another word for perseverance is grit. Grit means that you have spirit and determination and won’t let anything or anyone stand between you and your goals. Think of ways you can show grit. Do you have a task that you have to do soon that will be hard? Start now to get yourself ready physically and mentally. Think positive thoughts and make up your mind that you will succeed. Now do it!
Credit-By-Exam Notice to Parents
The State Board of Education has established procedures to allow elementary students to “skip” one grade level by taking a series of exams which assess the Texas Essential Knowledge/Skills (TEKS) established for that grade level. Parents interested in having their children screened for credit-by-exam should contact their school counselor, Cindy Lopez at (281) 517-6036 by May 24th.

Student Address Change and Personal Information Updates
At Millsap Elementary we strive to provide a quality education to the children who live in our attendance area.
We encourage all parents to keep all personal contact information current. If your living situation has changed or you have relocated, please make sure to contact the school registrar before the end of the school year. If the lease that we have in our records expires during the summer, we will request an updated proof of residency in August before the first day of school.
Kindergarten & Prekindergarten registration will resume during New Student Registration on August 13-16.
For more detailed information in regards to Proof of Residency or Registration Documents, information is listed on our district website: www.cfisd.net under PARENT & STAFF > REGISTRATION tab. Thank you!
