Lock Out Today

Parents & Guardians:

Today we had a School Lock Out from 8:20 - 8:30 because of a suspicious car and person reported at Carden Cascade Academy. We have an agreement with Carden that any time one of us has a lock out, we call the other since our neighborhoods are near each other.

The procedure for a lock out is:

* Get all students inside and double check that all doors are locked. (Today the time worked in our favor because it wasn't recess time and class had begun. With 3 adults supervising, we brought in the class from a portable in case the lock out lasted a long time).

* Call the School Resource Officer and the District Safety Liaison.

* No adults out of or into the building until the police give us the all clear. (Today we had a description of the vehicle and the individual, so we would have let parents in the front door one at a time if they had come.)

* Depending on the time of day, we alert the teachers and students. (Today we only alerted the class in the portable and the people who need to ensure doors remain locked and students stay in. If we had gotten to recess time, we would have told everyone. My goal is always to ensure kids feel safe and secure and aren't unnecessarily worried - the worrying is my job!)

One thing I want to add is that the security you all raised money for (the lock door buzzers and video) add an extra layer of calm in these situations because we know doors are locked from the get go. THANK YOU!! Let me know if you have any questions -
