March 2021

Let's Keep the Momentum Going!

What a fun Awareness/Celebration month we had in February! SO many people showed their support for our organization. We wore our buttons; we shared important information; and we helped lots of new members find our group! (Welcome!) With the pandemic and nonstop snow, the odds may be stacked against us, but we want to keep the positive momentum going! Read about how we can continue to foster social interactions and create meaningful celebrations in the month ahead.

Collaborative Blog Post: "Socialization Opportunities in Uncertain Times"

We are all eager to get together in person, and after a winter of staying inside, we and our children are feeling increasingly isolated and stir crazy. This Collaborative Blog Post is asking for ideas about how to interact with fellow humans during this time. What has worked for you? What kind of activities have helped you or your child remain connected with others? We would love to hear from parents, professionals, and community members about any tips/resources/websites/blogs/links you recommend for opportunities to socialize during these uncertain times.

Share your ideas on our Google Form, and we will compile applicable responses into our next Collective Blog Post (distributed in April's newsletter and featured on our website). Please submit your information by Friday, March 26, 2021.

Virtual Happy Hours

If you haven't yet joined us for a Virtual Happy Hour, what's stopping you? We get together quarterly as parents and professionals to unwind at the end of the week and catch up. We use the most recent Collaborative Blog Post to get the conversation going, but then we follow wherever it may lead. An RSVP is required, either on the Facebook Event Page ("interested" or "going") or via email if you're not on social media, and a zoom link is sent out a few hours before the call.

RSVP for our next call on Friday, April 9th at 8:00pm

And mark your calendars for the remaining 2 dates: Fridays, July 9th and October 8th at 8:00 pm

C.I.T.Y. Close-Up

Meet Camille! Her family received a sensory-friendly family photo session this past month with Something Blue Photography, courtesy of C.I.T.Y. of Support. Her proud mom says:

"Camille has a high energy for life, arts/crafts, and all things Disney. Camille has experienced some difficulties with sleep, sensory issues and has a speech delay. Through working with her amazing therapists, there has been an increase in her speech and incredible advances in her use of play. Camille's favorite things are Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and playing in water."

Comment on February's C.I.T.Y. Close-Up post in our Facebook Group featuring Camille by Wednesday night, 3/10 at 11:59 pm for YOUR chance to win a photography session in March!

A winner will be randomly selected and announced on Thursday, 3/11.

Birthday Buddies

Here is one of our first Birthday Buddy recipients looking over his surprise in the mail. His mom said, "My son turned 4 today and I forgot that this day, the 3rd birthday since diagnosis of a genetic syndrome, can be a bit of a minefield...The card from CITY reminded me I am in awesome company on this journey!"

Sign your child up to participate in this fun, FREE program, and he/she will receive a handmade birthday card in the mail from another child who receives therapy services. What a fun way to make early social connections and celebrate everyone. Our Google Form is quick, easy, and secure, so take a minute, and register your child today!

Clinics/Schools: Reserve a month for patients/students at your site to participate, and have them help assemble our special DIY birthday cards for anonymous peers! These projects encourage social connections and also address important therapeutic skills. We have a Sign-Up Genius where you can find all the details and select your month!

**Thank you to Roots Autism Solutions and Therapeutic Academy for sponsoring our

February birthdays! The kids at your clinic did such a great job!**

We Loved Our C.I.T.Y.

We hope you enjoyed participating in our first-ever "We Love Our C.I.T.Y." Awareness/Celebration Month to acknowledge ALL children receiving therapy services and the families who support them. An especially big "THANK YOU" to our Local Leaders. These ladies traveled all around Chicagoland helping to distribute buttons, so everyone could participate. These dedicated volunteers are so appreciated! Take a look at some of the photos we received this year!
