Note from the Principal

I can't believe the 2016-17 school year is coming to a close. We have so much to celebrate and to be thankful for this year!

We started the year celebrating our National Blue Ribbon Award. We were one of almost 270 public schools recognized in the United States for Excellence. Thank you to the parents and teachers for all you do to help make GES a school of academic excellence!

The fall started off with an exciting Gator Gallop, Fall Festival and Career Week. During career week many parents visited the schools to share about their career choices. We appreciate your willingness to share with all children what it takes to pursue different careers.

The year continued with a great fourth grade musical, movie nights, a successful science fair for our children, and the choir concert. Kindergarten and second grade put on musicals as well. Thank you parents for your time and dedication in bringing students early to school or picking up late so that our children could practice and improve their skills!

The winter and early spring brought about the 2nd ever Marketplace with over $7,000 going to various charities. We celebrated Earth Day and beautified the grounds. This year our students have raised over $40,000 for the American Heart Society, Leukemia Society, families in need, Emily's Kart and more. Our children are learning to give and be kind to others. We have focused our lifeskill teachings on integrity, patience, manners, compassion, self control, open-mindedness, accountability and empathy. Take time to watch our Patience video. Feel free to reinforce those character skills over the summer! We are a Gator all year long not just during school so we must continue to do the right thing and treat people right- each day and everywhere!!!!

Academically, our students made great strides in their learning. Our mathematicians, writers, and scientists shined brightly each day as they took on new experiences and improved their grit in doing things that were challenging to them. Our children and teachers were presented with the IPAD as an educational tool to amplify learning. The capability to research was amazing to see from K to 4th grade. Students were doing passion/genius hour projects from Kindergarten through 4th grade. GES Gators presented their new learned material in a multitude of ways including iMovie, chatterpixs, plays, presentations, posters, and more. Student centered environments were evident throughout the building. Our goal is to create an environment where students feel at home at their school! Thank you for joining us in the HSE21 journey of creating student centered learning opportunities for our students. We want our students to inquire and investigate! We hope this summer you will take time to continue to foster this inquiry approach in your home. Take time to cook together, play in the dirt and enjoy the sunshine! Get outside and play and then play some more!

Thank you for sharing your children with us and thank you for being an amazing school community!

Those images can be added to the gifts that are available and GES gets the same 30% of the sales! Also don't forget summer birthdays and Father's Day. Thanks to everyone for supporting our Artsonia web gallery this year. Your comments and purchases have made a difference to your student and his/her school! iPad Return Process for the End of the Year

As a part of our preparation for the end of the school year we will begin to collect rental iPads starting Friday May 19th from our 3rd and 4th grade students. We will continue with K-2nd grade Monday May 22nd, and the final day for all grade levels to turn in any rental iPads will be Tuesday May 23rd. We will only be collecting iPads and cases and inspecting those for any damage; we will not be asking for the charging brick or cable back, please keep those for use with rental devices issued in the next school year. We ask that any personal Apple IDs set up on the device be logged out of iCloud and iTunes and for all lock codes to be removed before the date of return. Any iPads with personal accounts on them at the time of the return will not be collected and will be sent back home to have it removed. If you have any questions on how to remove your account please reach out to our IT specialist, Mandy Sanchez, at asanchez@hse.k12.in.us.

HSE Schools Professional Honor Roll

It’s hard to believe the end of the year is in sight! May is such a busy month at HSE Schools, but it is also the perfect time to recognize a special teacher or staff member that has made a difference for your child.

As you are considering staff appreciation, go beyond the mug by nominating any HSE Schools teacher, counselor, nurse, bus driver, custodian, food service team member, administrator, or other staff member to the Professional Honor Roll.

Your honoree will receive notification of your gift, a thank you for exceptional service to students and public recognition on the HSSF website.

Visit www.hsefoundation.org/donate/thank-educator to thank an outstanding educator today!

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to see who will make the Honor Roll this year or see last year’s honorees at www.hsefoundation.org/what-we-do.
