LSE Summer Reading
LSE Library Open this Summer
The LSE Library will be open this summer! Did you know that students who do not read over the summer experience a "Summer Slide"? A report from the National Summer Learning Association says that "a conservative estimate of lost instructional time for students that don't read is approximately two months or roughly 22 percent of the school year." Avoid the dreaded summer slide! Check out all of the things we have planned below. Check out Mrs. Sample's website often for updates.
Stop by the LSE Library with your family and enjoy the activities we have planned. We will have Mystery Guest Readers, crafts and games, and you can check out books! Come see us and keep your brain strong!!!

LSE Summer Reading Log - Biblionasium
Biblionasium is a free and kid-friendly social network for kids ages 6 – 13. Students connect with their friends and with great books. Parents have complete control of their student's account. They determine what friends student can connect with or choose for there to be no connections at all. We are encouraging students to log at least 6 books over the summer.
Here are the benefits:
You get your very own virtual bookshelf, where you can keep track of what you’ve read, and what you want to read
It’s easy to share book recommendations with friends. Plus, you can get your friends to suggest books you’ll like
Your reading logs are kept safe online; no more pieces of paper to keep track of
BiblioNasium coach (and our favorite chimp) C. Manzee is here to help you and your friends become reading champs
You can win awards and gift certificates by just reading what you love to read
To Set Up an Account:
Click here to access the website. Simply follow the directions to set up your accounts.
Use the Reading Log to record the books that are read over the summer.
At the end of summer, your student will email the reading log to you. You will then email the log to tracie.sample@misd.org by August 25. Please include the student name and teacher name in your email.
If you choose not to set up an account, keep track of your summer reading on paper and return this log to Mrs. Sample by August 25.
