Youth Truth Survey Here We Go!
The 5 W’s & H for the Family Survey!
WHO: One parent or guardian from each household is invited to take
the Family Survey. The parent(s)/guardian(s) need to take one survey
per child that is a student in MPUSD.
WHAT: The anonymous YouthTruth link (see further below) gives
parents and guardians the opportunity to provide feedback for their
child's school in areas like culture, engagement, relationships,
communication & feedback, school safety, and resources.
WHEN: The survey window is 10-2-23 to 10-27-23.
WHERE: Parents/Guardians can take the survey online anywhere. Please call the office at (831) 392-3890, if you would like to take the survey on site using one of our iPads or Chromebooks. The Family Survey URL is http://ytsurvey.org/mpusdfamily23
WHY: Valuing parent and guardian input by inviting our MV family
members to share perspectives can support family engagement efforts,
which have been shown to contribute to a range of elements of student
achievement, including increased attendance, improved academic
performance, and social skills. Research suggests that efforts to improve
school culture and student achievement should be informed by family,
staff, and student perceptions. It will help our school make informed
decisions that require hearing diverse perspectives from essential
groups of stakeholders.

HOW: The Family Survey is online, and is available to take in English,
Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, or
French (by selecting the language of choice from a drop-down menu in
the survey itself). The survey is compatible with any internet-enabled
device, including desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, tablets/iPads, and
any mobile device that supports any of the following standard up-todate
internet browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome,
Microsoft Edge. The standard survey (without additional topic modules
or added custom questions) typically takes respondents about 15
minutes to complete. Each additional topic module adds about 5
minutes in length. The survey must be completed in one sitting. Thank
you again for taking the time to do this!

Announcements for the Week
**October 9, 2023, is Indigenous Peoples' Day. This day is celebrated the second Monday of October and recognizes the resilience and diversity of indigenous peoples in the United States.**
**October is National Bullying Prevention Month. In order to amplify the unified message that no one deserves to be bullied and all students deserve to feel safe and supported and to inspire everyone to act with kindness, acceptance, and inclusion, Monte Vista TK-8 will be engaging in a week long anti-bullying awareness campaign during the week of October 23rd. More information to come!**
1) The Read-A-Thon ends today, October 8th (final logging), with all donations and minutes turned in no later than Wednesday, October 11th. You can have your child turn in paper logs (if you lost official log, you can have it on separate piece of paper and refer to your class reading logs for the period of September 25th through October 8th to transfer over). You can also enter the minutes over the two weeks on this link. We are hoping to raise over $20,500 for our school, and you can either submit pledges on our 99 Pledges link or turn in cash and checks made out to Monte Vista Blue Jays, Inc. in the main office. Funds raised will provide support for programs which would otherwise be unaffordable. We are continuing to focus on enrichment programs (e.g. after school clubs, art class, and field trips) for students in all grades - TK through 8th. Happy Wrap-Up of Reading! We have heard from many kids how they have really increased their reading, so congrats!!

2) Please remember to be mindful of our drop off/ pick up routines by ONLY entering on Walter Colton Dr. and exiting via Toda Vista. Our ultimate goal is to keep all Blue Jay students and their families safe! Also, if you are parking (or even momentarily stopping) on Toda Vista or Via Ladera, please park in an allowed sidewalk space (not fully or partially in front of a driveway, crosswalk, or on a red painted area).
3) Fall Monte Vista After-School Enrichment Clubs (grades 1-8) notifications went out Monday, October 2nd via Parent Square. Please reach out if you have any questions, and clubs start tomorrow, October 9th. See notification emails about location and logistics.
4) Our list of parents who have not yet completed their annual registration first day packets online is shrinking, but still has a ways to go. Our office has sent a Parent Square to these families to get this taken care of as soon as possible (these are required documents). It should only take about 10-30 minutes to do. If for someone reason you completed it, and you still got the email, please let me know as we confirm these registrations in waves. Thanks!
Please note, if your annual registration update confirmation is not completed on Parent Vue, your child can't participate in after-school enrichment clubs until completed, and in-person or on-phone mandatory appointments will be set up the week of October 9th to be completed by Friday the 13th.
MPUSD Online Registration. For those families who may need support in completing the online registration, Berenice Hernandez or Anahi Gamboa, Monte Vista attendance clerk and school secretary respectively, can address any questions at this time. 831-392-3890, bhernandez@mpusd.k12.ca.us or agamboa@mpusd.k12.ca.us.
5) Our grades 7-8 Monterey Co-ed Soccer Teams are off to an amazing start! Please come out to support our Blue Jay athletes in action! See SCHEDULE for more information. Thank you for all those who have come out to support!
6) Please note that weekly reading logs can be turned in to your child's teacher after each weekend. During Read-A-Thon, both weekly and read-a-thon logs can be filled out separately and simultaneously. Buttons and other prizes (for older students) have been given out as students hit higher tier levels of minutes read. Read-A-Thon is a chance to skyrocket in minutes!
7) We have great news! The Pebble Beach Company Foundation has chosen us for a Campus Beautification Day (for funding and for staff volunteer support along with all of our families and staff who come out that day). More details to come, but it will be the morning of October 28th (the morning after Monte Vista Trunk or Treat).
8) Picture Retake Day will take place on Friday, October 13th. Please message your child's teacher if you would like your child to have a picture retake.

READ A THON:
Started Monday September 25 and it ends Sunday October 8th. The Final Prize of EZPZ Video Game Bus date will be finalized this week and communicated soon. We are making sure there aren’t any conflicting events where students would miss out. The grades will be broken out by TK-2 for the first hour, 3-5 for the second hour and 6-8 for the last hour. The students will be picked up and dropped off at their classrooms by a PTO Volunteer. Please check out the website here http://www.ezpzvideogameparty.com/. If the student who wins doesn’t play video games, they also have yard games we will be renting so the hour will be enjoyable.
