HUTCHINSON IS A GOLDEN BELL AWARD RECEIPIENT!!!!
CSBA believes in recognizing the extraordinary work school districts and county offices of education engage in across California. That’s why we are proud to announce the opening of this year’s Golden Awards program!
These awards honor the hard work and dedication of governing boards and district staff in creating innovative programs that improve student achievement and well-being in the state’s preK-12 public schools. They also recognize effective governance and boardsmanship of an individual board member and the important role education journalists play in creating awareness in the community.
Parent Teacher Conferences 10/18-10/22
Minimum Day Schedule: Release Time 1:15pm
Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Gamez
My name is Julian Gamez. My family and I moved into the City of La Mirada in 1972. I attended Foster Road Elementary School and John Glenn High School. I grew up playing Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. I continued playing both sports in high school. I graduated with a B.A. degree in Business Administration from CSUF. I then attended graduate school at CSULB where I earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration.
I began teaching in the NLMUSD in 1992 and earned my teaching credential from National University. I am married to a wonderful wife and have two beautiful children. My daughter is a freshman in college and my son is a sophomore in high school. I enjoyed coaching both of them until the age of twelve. I coached them in soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, and flag football. As you can see, I love sports. Sports teaches a lot of life lessons and builds character; it also promotes life long friendships. I’ve also coached Middle School and High School sports, including: baseball, softball, flag football, and basketball. I enjoy watching sports, traveling, dining, and cooking.
My wife and I are big Dodgers fans; it’s the only time we agree on what to watch on television! (LOL) I’ve completed 29 years of teaching! These years have gone by very fast. I have found my niche teaching middle school and especially teaching at Hutchinson Middle School, where I have taught for the past 17 years. They say that if you find a job that you like, you won’t have to work a day in your life. I truly believe that!
PTSA What We Are Doing to Support Your Students & Teachers
How does my PTA Membership matter?
Great question. And a question that we should all be asking. First, let’s remind everybody that PTSA is the Parent-Teacher-Student Association. As the president of this association for Hutchinson Middle School in La Mirada, I can tell you that we focus on what needs to be completed on campus each and everyday for the school to run as successfully as it does.
So, how your membership helps out is in a multitude of ways. For Example:
· Functions: Zombie Run Activity - Volunteers and Funds for the event to happen
· Dances: Back to School and 8th grade graduation dance – Venues and decorations completely funded by PTA
· Teacher Appreciation: Teacher Appreciation week and Friday treats
· Red Ribbon Week and Unity Day: In partnership with the school and ASB, Items need to promote the awareness
· Campus Volunteers: PTSA volunteers only (COVID regulations)
· Band Concerts: PTSA promotes and volunteers
· Discount of events at School: PTSA members will get discounts or free admission to some events.
· Family Movie Nights: Come enjoy a movie night on Campus on the big screen. Free event to PTSA Members ONLY. Completely funded by PTA.
· Sporting Equipment: Snack & lunch recreation equipment for students
· Club Materials: Provides funding for clubs, field trip scholarships, events
· College Scholarships: Provides funding for students beyond middle school
As you can see, there are many items that PTSA pays for each year. We need your PARENT VOICE! That’s right, you get to go to meetings and have a voice on how things are done within the schools all the way up to the National PTA level. Without that membership, you aren’t as loud of a voice as you could be. Our goal here at PTA is to help aide the schools, the teachers and always the students that are here each and every day. We try and make the school a great place to come to each day and help with them furthering their education. You too can join that team and become one of the Hutchinson PTSA Family today.
If you have questions, find a PTSA board member or you can e-mail us at HutchinsonHawksPTA@gmail.com
Thank you for being such a great part of Hutchinson Middle School.

Trisomy 21 Acceptance & Inclusion MONTH!
Down syndrome occurs across the human spectrum and is the most common chromosomal condition. Each year, about 6,000 babies are born with Down syndrome — a 1 in 700 chance. The prevalence of Down syndrome increases with the mother’s age. It is associated with delays in physical growth, characteristic facial features and intellectual disability. In fact, the average IQ of an adult with Down syndrome is equivalent to that of an 8-year-old.
These are just facts, and like all facts, they can fail to provide a full picture. The truth is that children born with Down syndrome can absolutely go on to live happy and long lives. And with Down Syndrome Awareness Month every October, we can be inspired to learn more about this topic and to celebrate people born with Down syndrome and the medical advancements that increasingly improve their quality of life.
