A student in Mrs. Bednar's kindergarten class brought a green wig in with his mystery bag to represent SPRING! Now that is critical "creative" thinking in the works as we are all getting excited for the warmer weather.

100 Days of School!
Birthday Treats
We know that birthdays are a momentous and special occasion in your child’s life. If your child would like to bring in an item to celebrate this very special occasion, birthday treats (except chewing gum and suckers containing gum in the middle) or non-edible items (pencil, bubbles, etc.) may be furnished for classmates if prior arrangements have been made with the teacher. Items will be sent home with students at the end of the day, so they must be individually packaged. Only one item should be sent in. No gift bags please. Healthy treats or non-food items are encouraged to be brought in. Please be aware that many students have food allergies. Please contact the school or the classroom teacher for specific instructions about food items that are prohibited in a specific classroom. Invitations to home parties may not be distributed at school or on the bus unless the entire class is invited. The office is not able to furnish parents with phone numbers and addresses of students for invitations.

Part of Ashlei Butt's Senior Project was to have the preschool and kindergarten students color pictures for our police force. The police officers really enjoyed all the beautiful pictures!

Kindergarten Valentine's Day parties are Wednesday, February 14th. Students will make bags at school, so please do not send in boxes for Valentines. If your child would like to bring in Valentines, please provide one for each child in the class, do not label with names of who they are for, and do not send in different items for boys and girls. ONLY HAVE YOUR CHILD WRITE THE “FROM” SECTION with his/her name. * Food/candy items attached to Valentines are permitted and will be sent home in our bags.
Parties are from 2:15-3:15 (in person volunteers arrive at 2:00 to set up). Items for the party should be sent in the day prior to the classroom party. Please provide all the items you signed up for along with directions.

Health Services Alert
Parents/ Guardians,
Thank you for your continued diligence and for keeping children home when sick to minimize the spread of illness! At this time the most common illnesses to watch for are:
Strep Throat: Symptoms of strep throat include sore throat, red beefy tonsils, fever, headache, swollen tonsils/glands in the neck, stomach ache, general not feeling well, and loss of appetite. Symptoms may vary from case to case. Have your child see a healthcare provider if you suspect Strep. Diagnosis is made by a simple throat culture. Students may return to school after 24 hours of antibiotic is completed and they have been fever-free without fever reducers for 24 hours.
Gastrointestinal Viruses: A few indicators are: complaining of a stomach ache that does not seem to go away, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping, or fever (not always). A stomach bug generally comes on suddenly and hits hard. If your child is sick, keep them home from school for 24-48 hours after vomiting and diarrhea have stopped.
COVID has been reported in both Preschool and kindergarten, “Some children get intense symptoms, while others get mild ones or are asymptomatic.” We are still following the Geauga Public Health Guidelines for COVID-19.
Thank you for your help in keeping our school healthy! Nurse Sara
Please feel free to contact me for any questions at 440-286-0470 or sara.alvord@chardonschools.org
Illness Guidelines:
Not sure if your child is well enough to be in school? Take a look at the guidelines below to help decide. For the continued health and well-being of all students, the following guidelines have been set up. Children will be sent home if he/she exhibits any of the following symptoms below:
• Fever (at least 100.4 or higher)
• Suspected contagious disease
• Vomiting or diarrhea (Abnormally loose or water stool)
• Thick yellow or green discharge from the nose or eyes
• Persistent or increasing cough, not improving over 4 or 5 days
• Unusual spots/rashes or severe itching anywhere on the body
• Behavior that indicates the student is not feeling well (in combination with any of the above)
Please monitor your child for the symptoms above, and keep them home if they are exhibiting these symptoms until they are well enough to return to school. If a child requires medication to get through the school day this is likely a good indicator they would benefit from continued rest at home.
A child may return to school after all symptoms are gone and they are diarrhea/vomit/fever free without the use of fever-reducing medication for 24 hours. (Can vary with physician recommendations)
Looking forward to sharing in the care of your child/children. Please contact me at any time if you have any questions at 440-286-0470 or via email at sara.alvord@chardonschools.org
Thank you, Nurse Sara
Health Screenings
Why are health screenings important to my child?
Health screenings give you valuable information about your child’s development.
You will become connected with resources to help prepare your child for success in school.
Screening will help identify any hearing, vision, health, growth, or general development needs your child may have. *
For many children, screenings can mean the difference between success and failure in school. If potential problems are detected at any of the screened areas, the child then has the opportunity to receive specialized help before entering kindergarten.
If you do not have concerns about your child’s health, growth, or development, Your school district will still need your child’s screening information and immunization information on file at school.
