A Thanksgiving Message
With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I would like to take a moment and share the various things that I am thankful for. Yes, I am thankful for my loving and caring family, two healthy children, a supportive wife, a great job, even some materialistic objects such as motorcycles, iPhones, and TV shows like Shark Tank.
However, this is a school newsletter and I want to thank my school family. I am thankful for the teachers that decided to go into the field of education to help raise our youth to be productive citizens of the world. I am thankful for our staff that helps them think creatively and critically to assume jobs in the future that are not even needed or created yet. I am thankful for our coaches, they sacrifice time with their significant other, children, and family and friends to model sportsmanship, competition, and putting in effort to achieve a goal. To the health aides, instructional aides, teachers, secretaries, counselors and custodians that assist with students that are sick. Thank you! We have many motherly and fatherly figures at school that lend a helping hand no matter the situation. To the teachers and aides that cover during their prep period (or during lunches) during a shortage of subs, thank you! We know how valuable time is and your willingness to help the efficiency of our school is noteworthy. To the teachers that offer before and after school tutoring, thank you! Many students need additional help and support and you provide a calm, inviting, work environment. To those driving great distances to work and back, thank you for choosing Carleton. We know you probably pass multiple schools on your way to work. To the cafeteria workers that feed hundreds of students every day, with healthy options at the appropriate temperature...thank you! To the aides that help students get on and off the bus safely, for those that assist with getting breakfast, lunch, and snacks for students, thank you for allowing our students to focus after receiving much needed brain food. To our custodians that maintain and clean our school and change furnace filters to help us continue to breath fresh and clean air, thank you. To our booster club parents that provide water and coffee for our staff members, I and many others say, "THANK YOU!" For the staff members that remind students to walk in the hallway, every day, multiple times, even after you just told them yesterday, and the day before that, and the week before that, and last month...wow, your patience is impeccable. For the staff members that spend their own money on our children, make additional snacks, pay for those in need, thank you for your selflessness. For our bus drivers that refuse to check their phone while driving in order to keep our kids safe, thank you for modeling safe driving habits. For the teachers that stay late, come in early, work on the weekends grading papers, and collaboratively plan with their colleagues outside of school, thank you for going above and beyond. For our secretaries that handle concerns brought to them by parents, students, teachers, and administrators...you are incredible workers and have great attention to detail. I am incredibly thankful for our two counselors, that help students cope with grief, family change, organization, and thousands of other concerns...you are very special to so many young ones. To Mr. Clark, thank you for ensuring that our building is safe and that students have an optimal learning environment on a consistent basis.
Last, and certainly not least, thank you to the STUDENTS...simply put, you make it all worth it. I look forward to seeing you excel next year, at the high school, in college, in your job, in the military, or whatever your future path may hold. I wish you nothing but the best during your time at Carleton.
These are a few of the reasons I am thankful to work alongside such great professionals, students, and parents at Carleton. I hope you all have a great holiday season and I encourage you to find the "good stuff." It's out there...and it's happening at Carleton every day!!!!

Paying it Forward
On Wednesday, November 16, 2016 the MoCi students went on a community based instructional field trip to Target. Melissa Hardy, the mother of one of our students, said she was going to meet us at the store to buy some items for our classroom. When she arrived, she explained that she won a $500 Target gift card and wanted to give back to our students in the MoCi program. She bought the classroom educational games for math and reading centers, fine motor games, cooking items to help teach the students life skills and snacks for the classroom (see photo above).
We are so grateful and lucky to have such wonderful parents. Thank you for paying it forward and benefitting so many students at Carleton. We are thankful for your generosity and thoughtfulness.
Whole group instruction in Mrs. Hardy's class.
Book Fair is here until November 22nd.

Clark's Corner
