Foundation Support of Frontier Schools Growing
Over this past year, Frontier Schools has for the first time made a concerted effort to invite area foundations to observe and become familiar with the mission of the school. Nearly a dozen foundations have taken this opportunity, and later many have considered grant applications for contributions to the school for both programming and capital needs.
Three particularly have been most generous with first-time gifts to Frontier. The Hall Family Foundation contributed to the expansion of the Pre-K program; the Sherman Family Foundation made a gift for program needs in special education and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation for faculty professional development and continuing education. These donations combined for more than $150,000.
Besides the strong presence of Superintendent Demircan, many faculty members were involved in both the outreach and the direct grant applications. One deeply involved was Rose Dicus, Director of Safety and Conduct. On this initiative, Ms. Dicus comments, “These foundation grants to Frontier were most affirming of the school’s mission and helped us provide professional development for the PreK teachers, as well as enabled us to obtain additional learning resources for our students to enhance their learning experiences.”
Early dividends from these engagements with local foundations are very encouraging. Frontier plans to continue these efforts in the coming year in areas of student health, social service, arts, scholarship, after school programs and capital expansion plans.
Many thanks to all involved including members of the board of directors and administration, faculty and staff.
Outreach Talk Series With Community Leaders
Representative Ashley Bland Manlove
Frontier Schools' Outreach & Communications Department organizes and hosts several Outreach Talk Series with Community Leaders each year.
On Wednesday, November 6th, Representative Ashley Bland Manlove (District 26) was our guest speaker. In attendance were 40 seniors from Frontier School of Excellence, local community leaders and Frontier staff. Rep. Manlove shared some of her top priorities, including the education of young people in urban areas with a focus on school funding and job development. Rep. Manlove also spoke about her dedication to improving the criminal justice system while she was as an Intelligence Analyst for the Missouri National Guard.
Her primary message to students was to remain resilient in times of difficulties, keep pushing hard to achieve your dreams, and remember to take time to laugh and to breathe.

Home Visits
With our diverse student body, home visits are paramount in bridging cultural gaps that might exist. FSHS STATE OF THE ART INNOVATION LAB!
Frontier Schools’ is building a modern, state-of-the-art Innovation Lab attached to the Frontier STEM High School.
This project-based approach is an essential part of immersive STEM education; it makes the experience real for the students. They will be able to conceive a project, be it a product or prototype, and follow the production process from conception to physical
reality. Students will understand the technology that powers their creations; both the
hardware and the software. The goal is to build a strong, authentic knowledge-based theory to applied skills in STEM education, ensuring Frontier’s high school graduates will
be prepared to enter collegiate level science, technology, engineering and mathematics
programs with the skills to succeed on day one.
