Designers' Reminders
Welcome to a new iteration of messaging from Design39Campus. We are trying something new in the hopes that we can better communicate with our community. Below you will find messaging from Design39Campus, including important dates, updates regarding curriculum, information from our Counselors, details about Traffic, highlights from the Loft, and much, much more. We hope you will find this weekly communicate informative and valuable.
We also want to provide an enthusiastic thank you to the Design39Campus community and the D39C Collaborative for the treasure and time they collected during 39 Days of Giving. So much of what happens at D39C is possible only because of the amazing generosity of this fantastic community. So, on behalf of the staff: THANK YOU!
Looking forward!
Halloween Update
As part of our district-wide commitment to design for belonging, Design39Campus is focused on creating inclusive, welcoming environments for all. While we recognize that Halloween is a fun tradition for many, it is not a holiday celebrated by everyone for various reasons, and we want to honor that. We are also aware of the range of inequities embedded in Halloween celebrations that take place as part of the school day and the unintended negative impact that it can have on students, families, and staff. In addition, it is often difficult for designers to concentrate and learn on Halloween, making it challenging for LEDs to teach.
Like previous years, Design39Campus will not be endorsing or hosting Halloween celebrations, like a parade or costume contests, nor will we require or reward students for wearing costumes or dressing up during the school day. This decision was made in collaboration with the Design39Campus staff.
While D39C is not publicly celebrating Halloween related festivities, LEDs may design around fall and harvest related activities on the days leading up to and during Halloween. These activities are being conducted by LEDs at their discretion.
If, however, your child wishes to wear a costume for Halloween, we ask that all families and students be mindful of which costumes are appropriate for school:
No weapons. Knives, guns, or batons are not permitted at school. If your child does have these items, they will be removed and returned at the end of the day
No costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs
No masks, face coverings, or face paint. Students' faces must be visible throughout the school day
No costumes that could be offensive. i.e., a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage, or religion
We also ask that you save your scary costumes for the evening, sending your child in attire that will not “scare or spook” our young designers. Students wearing questionable costumes will be asked to change into appropriate school attire.
In addition, the Collaborative will host a Fall Carnival on the lower blacktop on Saturday, October 21nd. Students are permitted to wear appropriate costumes during this event, and our Student Empowerment Team will be designing an opportunity for students to showcase their costumes, should they choose to wear one. We look forward to seeing all our families at our Fall Carnival.
Project Lead the Way
During our September 18th Professional Growth Day, Design39Campus recommitted to offering Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for every student, TK-8. PLTW is an innovative educational program designed to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our students. We believe this initiative will empower our students to thrive in a world increasingly reliant on these critical skills. We want to acknowledge Dana Clarkson and Abbey Bryant for their courage in designing and guiding our work with PLTW for the day. They (and others) spent many hours planning not only for the day, but for the months and years ahead. The commitment we made as a campus to provide each student with high quality STEM education is unmatched in the district and in the country. We are also one of the only sites in PUSD where nearly every LED/teacher is trained in the ways of PLTW. D39C is leading with courage.
The Power of Project Lead the Way
PLTW takes a dynamic approach to learning by focusing on hands-on experiences and project-based activities. This interactive curriculum is designed to nurture creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork—all essential skills in today's fast-paced world.
Why is STEM Education Crucial?
In our rapidly advancing society, STEM education is more important than ever. Careers in STEM fields are among the fastest-growing and most in-demand, offering exciting opportunities and competitive salaries. PLTW prepares our students to meet these demands head-on, providing a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
A Glimpse into the Curriculum
PLTW offers a diverse array of courses tailored to different grade levels, providing a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. Students have the chance to explore various STEM disciplines, from computer science and engineering to biomedical science, robotics, and more. This exposure helps them make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.
Support for Our Teachers
Our educators receiveDD specialized training and ongoing support from PLTW, ensuring they are equipped to deliver the curriculum effectively. This means your child will benefit from the expertise and dedication of well-prepared teachers.
Success Stories
The impact of PLTW on students is remarkable. We have seen our students grow in confidence, excel academically, and develop a genuine passion for learning. We look forward to sharing success stories and testimonials that highlight the transformative power of PLTW in shaping the lives of our young learners.

Attendance: To report your child's absence or early checkout, please email the attendance office at d39cattendance@powayusd.com before 10:00 am on the day of the absence. Please include your child's name, homeroom/grade, dates of absence, and reason for absence. We kindly ask that you avoid checking out your student during the lunch period from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Please refer to the attendance section of our Design39Campus website for protocols regarding reporting student absences and requesting early release for your student.
Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders: Please remind your designers that they should be walking their bikes, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, horses, segways, pogosticks, unicorns, and unicycles when on D39C campus. Also, while we love puppers and always want to pet them when we see them, please refrain from bringing them on campus during drop off and pick up. Thank you.
Communication with your Designer: If there is a need to communicate with your child during the school day, please send a message to your child’s LED or the Welcome Center. Please refrain from communicating with them directly through text messages or phone calls as it disrupts their learning.
Personal Items: For equity reasons, we are asking that students keep their personal playground equipment at home or in their backpack. Our wonderful Collaborative supplies us with enough funding to ensure that there is enough equipment during recess and lunch.
Lost and Found: Missing something? Water Bottle? A lunch box? A jacket? Two jackets? A tape deck, some Creedence tapes, a briefcase filled with some business papers, a rug that really tied the room together? Our lost and found carts are already filling up! The carts can be found outside the main gate before school and after school. Come, find yourself. The lost and found cart will be donated in a few weeks.
The D39C Collaborative
The D39C Collaborative is a 100% volunteer-run foundation designed to be responsive to the needs of students, parents, and learning experience designers of Design39Campus. Once a year, the D39C Collaborative secures funding to expand and enhance the educational experience of every student attending Design39Campus.
This year’s 39 days of giving campaign was the school’s most successful yet. Thank you so much to all our generous families.
