Mrs. Nigro's News
December 10, 2015
Our anchor text this week was Click, Clack, Moo which is a great example of the genre Humorous Fiction. The children have really enjoyed this genre during Daily 5 and during our class read aloud. In the area of comprehension we have been working on Drawing Conclusions. The students have used their schema and what the author tells them to make conclusions about characters in the text. The students also had a chance to use this skill in writing this week when they wrote 3 clues about a gift they would like to receive. We are hanging these projects on their lockers so others can draw conclusions about what is inside the present. Then they can check to see if they are right by 'opening' the present. They are really enjoying this activity.
Operation ShoeBox- Donations Accepted until December 16th
We are wrapping up our current math unit on geometry and measurement early next week. The students will review on Monday and then take the unit assessment on Tuesday. If you ever need help measuring at home please get your child involved. The more the students get hands on practice with this skill the more successful they will be.
PTO Pizza Lunch
The Gower PTO will be treating all students to a Pizza lunch next Thursday, December 17th. No need to send you child with a lunch that day, unless they do not wish to eat pizza.
Did you hear about our Pet Rocks? Ask your child to see their pet rock on their iPad. They did an excellent job creating their pet on Wednesday with our friends from Mrs. Reynolds' class.
Our next activity as geologists is to take a closer look at three kinds of soil. Does all soil look the same? The students will be investigating to find out. Stay tuned next week to see our results.
