Good afternoon, WES Families!
Please see below for all of the happenings at Walkerton Elementary!
JGEF Tailgating Fun! (NEW)
The John Glenn Education Foundation is sponsoring a tailgate at the homecoming football game on Friday, October 1st at 5:00 PM!
The JGEF will be providing FREE pizza from Bourbon Street Pizza, cookies, chips, and bottled water. There will also be cornhole to play!
Please make plans to stop by next Friday to have some fun!
Leaves are Falling, and It Is Getting Cold! (NEW)
Fall came full force this week, as we saw the temperature drop to 55 degrees at 7:45 in the morning!
As the weather begins to change, please remind your children that their clothes need to change as well. Coats, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. may be needed sooner rather than later.
If you need assistance in providing any type of clothing, please email Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Similarly, as the rain (and God forbid snow) begins to fall, please remember to keep it slow in the parking lot, both in the morning and afternoon. We have a lot of very excited kids eager to both come to school and go home from school, and we want to make sure we are keeping them as safe as possible.
Local VFW Contests! (NEW)

WES Devices: Chargers, and Cords Going Home (Reminder)
If/when a child is sent home for COVID related reasons, we want to ensure that each student has everything they need to meet virtually with their class(es): This includes sending home a device, charging brick, and cord.
Our Tech Department does a wonderful job of ensuring that these items are placed in a Ziploc bag with a note for each child.
As a reminder, if the charging brick and cord are not returned upon your child's returning to school, for grades KG-2nd, a $5 fee for each the charging brick and cord will be assessed to your child's account. For grades 3-6, a $20 fee will be assessed for a missing Chromebook charging brick and cord.
If items are misplaced or forgotten, we will send home a reminder to return the item, but if the charging brick or cord is not returned within 48 hours, that $5 fee will be assessed until the items are returned.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us

With any new program, there will be some bumps along the way, but here are TWO UPDATES that will hopefully alleviate any stress:
- The wonderful individuals you have gotten to know with John Glenn B/A Care will be back as part of the Boys and Girls Club Program!
- The service will start our first day of school, Wednesday, August 11th

Principal Fuller's Thoughts
Benjamin is growing up way...too...fast.
It feels like only yesterday that Kristen and I brought him home from the hospital, both of us figuring out those first couple of hours, let alone days with a newborn.
Recently, Big Ben has gotten into that stage where he has "mastered" walking, and is now beginning to run...into everything :)
Ben loves to run across the grass at the park, where he inevitably falls, rolls over, and wants to do it over again.
This week I couldn't help but be so impressed with him because every single time he fell, he wanted to get right back up to try again.
I've always maintained that one of the most crucial lessons we can teach our children is simple: How to fail the right way.
I will fail. Benjamin will fail. You will fail.
That's life.
But the real measure of success is how we emerge from those failures, from adversity, from those rugs being pulled out from underneath that will ultimately make us a stronger and better person.
This isn't to say that it's ok to tell your children to fail, but in order to learn from failure one must first...well, fail.
Teaching our kids that everything good in life comes with hard work and determination is essential: The key to success is to learn from our mistakes...creating opportunities through failure is how we teach our children to grow.
Benjamin will master running in the coming months, but only if he continues to get off his butt and try again :)
