Further Workshops for NCEA Literacy and Numeracy
We are offering Further Assessment Opportunities for Level 1 English 90052, 90053 and 90856, and Level 1 Mathematics 91026, 91029 and 91035 after the practice exams (Monday 26th September, Wednesday 28th September and Thursday 29th September).
The need for some Further Assessment Opportunities has arisen because of the disrupted year, with both staff and student absences impacting student achievement. Details of the specific standards offered will be published next week.
While all students are able to undertake a Further Assessment Opportunity if the standard is offered in their course, the length of time available for workshops means that the workshops will focus on the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve the standard.
Some students (and parents/caregivers) will receive a personal invitation to the workshops because not achieving these particular standard/s will impact their capacity to achieve their NCEA.
Other students who wish to attend a Further Assessment Opportunity will need to register their name and the standard/s by contacting Mr Clarke (j.clarke@rosehillcollege.school.nz). These students should be aware that attending a workshop may disrupt learning and revision toward external achievement standards in other courses because students will miss regular classes to attend these workshops.
Study / Revision Advice
1. Register on the NZQA site a Learner Login to access standards, past papers, and sample answers.
2. Know from the Student Portal or Tutor Group Teacher what credits have been gained and what are still to obtain.
3. Complete all internals by the end of this Term.
4. Aim for 14 credits per subject including the externals.
5. Take advantage of subject tutorials and further opportunities to gain credits.
6. Know what is in the exam.
7. Have a study timetable - 3 x 30 minute sessions per day.
8. Study little chunks repeated often, in quiet.
9. Phones are a distraction - parents should have them during study time.
Uike Lea Faka-Tonga Fiefia! Happy Tongan Language Week!
This year’s theme for Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga - Tonga Language Week - is: Ke Tu'uloa 'a e lea faka-Tonga 'i Aotearoa, which means Sustaining the Tonga Language in Aotearoa.
On Friday 9 September, Year 9s had a special Tongan Language week assembly and were treated to a celebration of Tongan performance with lots of hulohula (dancing) and hivaʻí (singing). Even Mrs Suasua couldn't escape the electric atmosphere and found herself on stage hulohula as well!
Malo to everyone who performed and helped put together such an amazing performance!

Recap: 13PEO Haerenga to Aotea/Great Barrier Island
Last week saw our Year 13 Outdoor Education students travel out to Aotea for a week of adventuring in this amazing marine environment. The weather played its part this year and we had some of the most calm and sunny conditions that the kura has ever experienced out there.
Activities included steep creeking, rock climbing, the always favourite coasteering, stand up paddle boarding on a huge paddleboard, and some sea kayaking to various idyllic campsites. Swimming with the seals, observing dolphins and stingrays in the bay, and being constantly surrounded by the Kaka and Pateke really topped of the activities.
Thanks must go to Hillary Outdoors for the super supportive and knowledgeable instructors and also to one of our very own graduates of the Rosehill College Outdoor Education program (Ellie Schick), who has made the outdoors her career, and is now passing that on to the next batch of students coming through the College.
A great week all round really, just a little hard to settle back into school routines this week however.

Term 3 is nearly over which means summer holidays are just around the corner. Children and teens who don’t read much over the long summer holidays can lose gains they've made in their reading levels and fluency over the year. This is true for all children, but especially for children who are already struggling readers. Children who keep reading over the summer holidays can avoid the 'summer slide' and may even make reading gains for the start of the next school year.
We are pleased to say that we are offering our Summer Reading programme again this year. Students can borrow up to 10 books from the library for the summer holidays. They will also have full access to our huge selection of eBooks and Audiobooks online.
If you or your child are interested, please collect a permission slip from the library. It is important to note that summer reading is about reading for pleasure and not studying. Your child may choose books that are easy to read or that they have read before, please encourage them regardless of their book choice.
Click here for more information about how you can support your child with summer reading this year.

With only a few events left on the winter sports calendar it is nice to know we have finally managed to have a near normal winter season. Thank you to all those who were involved in making the 2022 winter sports season a success. The more than 300 students who participated this winter appreciate the time and effort that was given to them and we all know that without the support of coaches, managers, friends, and whānau none of it would be possible.
We are now switching gear and looking for students to get involved in our summer codes. While this is mostly for Juniors (Year 9 & 10) there are still a few options available for our Senior students to sign up for.
Our Junior summer codes include Touch, Cricket, Volleyball, and Softball. Rugby 7’s and our newly formed Running Club are available for all students. If students are interested they can sign up in the Sports Office at interval or lunch.
We are also seeking nominations for our Sports Awards. Please see the information below and use the links to make nominations.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Alana Mathews who competed in the Athletics New Zealand Road Champs in Upper Hutt over the weekend. Alana finished 1st in the 5km Race Walk nearly 3 minutes ahead of her nearest rival.
Congratulations to our U70 Rugby team who won the Auckland 5B competition on Saturday. This team was beaten only once all season and exacted their revenge in the final beating Green Bay High School 7-0. A late try to Oscar Hayhow and conversion by Amore Pahina sealed the deal for the team. A huge thank you to all the friends and whānau, and also former Principal Sue Blakely, who made the trip to Pakuranga to support the team.
