GRE Family Gazette
October 21, 2019
Dear GRE Families,
Fall is here and we are loving it! Thank you to those families who attend our final Parent Teacher Conferences for this Fall. We loved getting to chat with our families and share all the amazing things going on at GRE. This week our Third Graders attended a walking field trip to Myer's Inn to learn all about life long ago, specifically in Sunbury. We had a great time! We also celebrated GRE's student of the month-Ella Okoneski and our Artist of the Month Claire Wilson. Way to go!
Looking to the week ahead-our Third Graders will be taking the Fall Ohio State Test in English Language Arts this Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Please plan to have your third grader there to avoid having to take a Make Up test.
Here's to a great week!

Important Info
If you were unable to attend our Elementary Redistricting Community Forum, please visit the page on our website for information and an important survey: Elementary Redistricting On this page, you will find a video presentation, maps, and a link to the feedback survey-- which is open through October 20. Please be sure to read the redistricting criteria and watch the video prior to taking the survey. Thank you!
2. Veteran's Day is right around the corner. Click here to read this year's Invitation!
3. A reminder from last week: In an effort to increase safety during our end of day dismissal, beginning Monday, October 14th, the recess gates will remain closed until all students are dismissed. If you have previously picked your children up on the playground, beginning Monday you will need to meet your child at the gate closest to the Pavilion and/or the back gate closest to the field. The gate that is near the bike rack will not be a pick up point in order to avoid bus dismissal traffic. Each gate will have a staff member present who will monitor that a child finds their adult. Once all students have been dismissed the gates to the playground will be open for all to play! Thank you for helping us keep students safe!
4. It's that time of year already! Please check out the resource below provided by our District Nurse, Megan Truax-help us keep our students healthy!
Specials Spotlight: Art with Mrs. Doran
This year our “Adventure Awaits” theme is going to carry into our art show! Each class has been working hard creating adventure themed art that we can’t wait to showcase in April!
KG- Kindergarten students in each class are going on an Animal Adventure! Make sure to ask your child what animal they are basing their artwork on!
1st- Students in first grade are going on Ocean Adventures! Make sure to ask your child what ocean themed artwork they are creating!
2nd- Second graders are going on Outdoor Adventures! Make sure to ask your child about their outdoor artwork!
3rd & 4th- These grades are going on Adventures Around the World! Make sure to ask your child what country/continent or project they are creating!
Art to Remember- Order forms went home last week! You can order online or on paper...all orders are due Oct. 21st! If you misplaced your student’s order form or code you can search by their name & school here. Orders will be delivered in time for the holidays & make great personalized gifts!
Yearbook Cover Contest- The Yearbook Contest forms will be sent home this rotation of art class (Oct. 15th-21st) to students who would like to participate! This is an optional contest that students may complete at home & return to the box outside the art room by Friday November 1st! Designs should fit with our theme this year “Adventure Awaits at GRE” and be student’s original artwork. There will be a front cover winner, a back cover winner for each grade level, plus a class page winner from each class!
Art Day- GRE’s Art Day will be on Friday November 8th instead of in the spring! On Art Day students have the opportunity to work with both a VISUAL artist to make something and a PERFORMING artist to learn how to do something. We will be looking for parent volunteers for the visual art sessions to have extra hands...be on the lookout for a message from your student’s teacher if you would like to come help! Bonus, the Veteran’s Day performance is the same day in the afternoon!
Congrats to our Golden Spatula Winners!
This week we introduced the "Golden Spatula Award" at lunch time. This prize is awarded to one class at each grade level. Throughout the week, we look for students who are following our lunch room expectations. It was awesome to see the kids get so excited-please help us congratulate our winners for the week of October 14th!
