A Message from Principal Bame
Dear Laurel Park Families,
Today is the National Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On Friday, we shared the following morning announcement with our staff and students:
Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on the third Monday of January each year. It’s a day to remember and honor the great Civil Rights leader. On this day, many Americans volunteer at shelters, schools, hospitals, and other community organizations to honor King’s legacy of service and commitment. We encourage all of our Laurel Park Penguins to consider giving back to the community in a positive way.
Examples could include helping your family with a project, serving through a community organization, or writing a thank you note.
However your family spent the day, we hope it was relaxing and joyful!
Please note several events coming up:
- Science Fair, January 24th
- Book Fair, March 1st - 15th
- STEAM Night, March 9th
- PTA Family Fun events and spirit nights, TBA
- Field Trips, per grade level calendar
This is a great time to complete the WCPSS volunteer clearance process, if you have not done so already.
As a friendly reminder:
- Please send your child (no matter what grade) to school with an extra set of clothes, in case they need it during the day.
- We expect our students will deal with colds and viral infections throughout the winter months. Please review the WCPSS return to school policies.
- Please make sure to send your child to school with a healthy snack every day. Teachers also welcome snack donations for those who may forget to bring snack.
- All clothing and personal items should be labeled with your child's first and last names.
As always, we appreciate your partnership and support!

The Dancing Drums Are Coming!
LPES PTA is very excited to welcome Dancing Drum School Day interactive assemblies on January 17 and 19. These programs will give all students the opportunity to play 6 drums and percussion instruments! Each grade level of students take part in their own drumming workshop during their scheduled specials time. Students will experience the thrill of making music together with their classmates as they move through the 6 different instrument sections. Each drumming workshop will feature exciting rhythms, vocal chants, musical games and teamwork activities designed to keep students engaged, learning, and having a blast!
This is an amazing, interactive program the entire school will thoroughly enjoy! The “Drumming Up Character” program will enrich our school's character education through rhythm, song, and dance! This high energy, interactive program engages students through hip drum rhythms, character rap songs, and exciting dance routines about Fairness, Caring, Responsibility and Respect. To view a preview video of the Interactive Performance Assembly program visit: https://dancingdrum.com/pages/interactive-performances
The Book Fair is coming in March! We are so excited to be able to have an in person book fair again! Being in person also takes a bit of help, so please keep an eye out for volunteer signups and make sure that you have been cleared to volunteer by the front office.
