DC Staff Update

16 November 2014

I'm grateful this week for...

The huge amount of time and effort so many of you put into Family Fun Day yesterday. Whether it was supporting students with their activities, managing the music, supervising the Bubble Football (and yes, we really need to get a staff team started) and bouncy castles, getting wet in the sponge splash, manning the bar, carting equipment or any of the other myriad of things. It was a very successful day, especially helped by having the perfect autumn day. I need to especially acknowledge Sue for putting all the rosters together and really getting the students (and staff) lined up, and to Pat and his team for all the work in setting it up and taking it down afterwards.

Save the Date

There will be a short whole-College staff meeting on the last Monday of the term (8 December) at 3.30pm in order to say goodbye to Natalie, Vania, Kirsten and Matt.

Welcome Felix Hansson

Congratulations to Daniel and Rita over the birth of their son, Felix (4kg and 60cm).

Arts & Cultural Festival Patron

Last year a number of DC families and individuals became patrons of the Arts Fest by donating either HK$100 (Gold Patron) or HK$200 (Platinum Patron). This money went towards helping support the Arts Fest week and those donor's names were published in the Arts Fest Booklet.

If you would like to support this year's Art & Cultural Fest in the same way, please grab and complete a Patron of the Arts sheet from the staffroom or Peter Lasscock.

Contract Renewals & Departures

Thanks to all of you who have emailed me to let me know that you will be accepting a new contract for 2015-17. Can I ask those of you who have yet to reply to please give me some indication within the next 24 hours, as positions for August 2015 are being posted early this week (see below).

As of today, those staff not returning next year are Matt Barker, Rick Smith, Kristy Baron and Jonathan Climas. Lis Wilson has also announced her intention to head home at the end of this academic year.

2015 Recruitment

Teaching positions for next August are being advertised early this week on the DC, ESF and Search web sites. The positions include those mentioned above (LDT and Maths). In addition to this we have 3 new positions created through roll growth (Y5 extra class, secondary English and secondary Humanities/History). We will also be trying to appoint an MYP/DP Teacher Librarian, which we had difficulty doing last year.

This week

Monday has the second whole-College staff meeting for the year from 3.30-4.30pm. You should have all received an invitation to sign up for 1 of 3 sessions (Character Strengths, Growth Mindset, Kindness & Gratitude) by yesterday on the googledoc. Any EAs or support staff who wish to attend are also welcome, although separate sessions will be offered to you.

House football runs through this week so please grab a moment to go and support your house. We also have our Y10-12 students and many staff off at the end of this week on our annual No Boundaries excursions. Safe travels.
