Weekly Report
Hello there! The IREAD-3 test is getting closer. We are working hard here at school and preparing. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home. I brought a book to school and read with the kids. It is hard to take a step away from my computer, but I truly find I am enjoying a little reading time. These kids look up to us and seeing me reading on my own is an example I need to set.
Please take a look at RDS. I have had many kids not turn in assignments. These are seen as an "M" and stand for MISSING. This is bad because it equals a zero. Please know that I remind the kids to turn stuff in and ask for it probably too many times. Fourth grade teachers may not be so patient. Third grade is a major year of taking on more responsibility. The end of the third grading period is on March 12.
Have a nice long weekend. Friday and Monday are days off without elearning. I will see the kids back on Tuesday, February 16. Thank you for all the cute valentines and goodies. The kids loved passing things out and seeing what they got. It was a lovely day.
Reading--Our weekly story is called Timeless Thomas: How Thomas Edison Changed Our Lives. It is a biography about Thomas Edison. We will focus on making inferences, text structure, central (main) idea, and text and graphic features. We will have a quiz on Friday.
Math--We will finish Topic 12 and have a little quiz. Fractions can be difficult. We are taking our time on these fraction topics. Timed tests are still taking place. Your child may come home with some timed tests to practice. We need to learn these facts.
Spelling--This week's words are -ed and -ing endings. There will be a test on Friday.
Social Studies--We will continue our Bessie Coleman issue of Scholastic News. Science-We will begin another Mystery Science lesson.
English--We will begin Unit 3 and work on comparatives and superlatives. We will have a quiz on Friday.
