The Falcon Report

Welcome!
From the District Administrator's Office
Last Friday’s snow brought to us our third emergency closing day of the school year. We had built two make-up days into our calendar. Now, needing to make up a third day, the School Board has voted to make Wednesday, May 10th a student attendance day. This means we will now be holding regular classes on:
- Friday, March 31
- Monday, April 17
- Wednesday, May 10
So teachers can continue their curriculum development work, they will be doing that work on Monday, June 5 rather than May 10. If we should have another emergency closing day, and we hope we do not, the School Board will need to decide how that day will be made up.

With the way the weather has been the last few weeks the playground has been snow covered, soggy with puddles, and mostly grass. The students have been doing a good job of staying dressed for the weather. Since the wood chips and grass area has been pretty wet yet, the students need snow pants and boots to play in those areas. Students are allowed to stay on the black top area with shoes. Looking at the forecast for next week, it looks like it will be warming up and we will see how fast the area will dry out. The students will need a coat or sweatshirt on because most of the week will be in the 40’s next week.
We are going to be having our reading week March 13-17. Some of the activities taking place will be the color dress-up days, buddy classroom reading, book swap (may switch 2 books each day), guest classroom readers, and we end the week in the gym on Friday afternoon with a celebration. If you are interested in being a guest reader for a classroom please contact the school to sign up and we will assign a class for you.
READING WEEK: MARCH 13TH-17TH
- Monday: Yellow Day
- Tuesday: Blue Day
- Wednesday: Orange Day
- Thursday: Red Day
- Friday: Green Day / Leprechaun
The Wisconsin Forward Exam window is March 20th through April 28 for grades 3-8. We are starting to get geared up for the test at school and will send more information when we know what week's each grade level will be testing. Here is the link to go on a practice site so you can see what the kind of questions the students are tested on.

Flambeau School has a small group of sophomores who are participating in Indianhead Community Action Agency's group called Teen Leadership Academy (TLA). As a student group they were tasked with identifying one area of focus in our high school. They chose “respect” as their focus. Through their action planning, this group of students worked with Jeremy Allard and Julie Bever to create their very own Flambeau Respect Retreat which was held on Tuesday, February 28th. Students who participated were freshman and sophomores. As a kickoff to the day, students were engaged in a poverty simulation led by Julie Bever and Jeremy Allard. The simulation is meant to bridge the gap from misconceptions of the reality of poverty to an understanding while offering a meaningful and insightful experiential learning opportunity. Afternoon activities were led by Jeremy and the TLA students. Key take-a-ways from students were very positive and two students’ quotes stick out in my mind, “Respect everybody, even if it doesn’t mean anything to you. It could mean a great deal to them.” and “Give respect to those around you—you have no idea what is going on in other’s lives or the types of miles they have walked.”
Thank you to all volunteers who helped during the poverty simulation! We could not have had a successful day without you!

As you can see there is much to do that doesn't involve a ball but it still takes a TEAM!
