The 5 Health Related Component Definitions and Examples

  • Cardiovascular Endurance - The ability of hearts and lungs to work together
Ex. Running the pacer test or a marathon

  • Flexibility - Being able to bend or stretch your joints as far as possible
Ex. Doing splits in ballet or gymnastics

  • Muscular Strength - The ability for your muscles to exert a lot of force at one time
Ex. lifting really heavy weight one or very few times

  • Muscular Endurance - The ability to use muscles for a long period of time without tiring.
Ex. Lifting a lighter weight a bigger number of times

  • Body composition - The combination of all of the tissues that make up the body such as bones muscle, organs and body fat.
Ex. You can exercise 60 minutes a day to improve it and use a skin caliper to test it

The 6 Skill Related Component Definitions and Examples

  • Agility - The ability to change body positions quickly and keep the body under control when moving.
Ex. Doing Agility courses

  • Power - The ability to combine strength with speed while moving
Ex. Football or hockey

  • Balance - The ability to keep the body in a steady position while standing or moving
Ex. Yoga

  • Reaction Time - The ability to move quickly once a signal to start moving is received.
Ex. Playing Wac-a-Mole and hitting all of the moles

  • Speed - The ability to move all or a part of the body quickly
Ex. You can work on it by going for sprints and timing them

  • Coordination - The ability of body parts to work together when you perform an activity
Ex. When you are jump roping you are using a lot of coordination
