SBLSD partnership helps seniors receive guaranteed admission into college
To help increase access and reduce barriers to attending college, SBLSD is participating in the Guaranteed Admissions Program with select universities in Washington — Western, Central, Eastern, and Washington State universities, Pacific Lutheran University and The Evergreen State College.
After meeting eligibility requirements, guaranteed admissions means that a student knows they are accepted into a university before completing the paperwork required in the regular application process. This eliminates the guesswork and time spent completing various college applications when admission status would not normally be known ahead of time.
Student eligibility components include GPA and completion of College Academic Distribution Requirements, with requirements varying by university.
SBLSD is one of 66 school districts statewide participating in the program with a shared commitment to meeting students’ college and career goals. The program focuses on increasing access and credential completion, especially for students who may not have considered going to college
For more information about the Guaranteed Admissions Program, please contact your school’s counselor.

HIV/AIDS Prevention Curriculum- Parent Curriculum Review Night
Washington State law requires that every student receives HIV/AIDs prevention education in grades 5 through 12. Because this unit covers sensitive topics, Washington State law and SBLSD board policy require that parents are provided the opportunity to preview these lessons.
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District (SBLSD) is hosting a curriculum night for families to preview the HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum for students currently enrolled in 8th grade Skills for Life or 9th grade Health classes. Additionally, there will be another opportunity in the spring for families of 6th-12th graders who will study this Health-related content during 2nd semester.
Parent Review Night
December 8, 2022 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Sumner-Bonney Lake School District Administration Building, Board Room
Curriculum will be available for preview. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to understand the health content for grades 8 and 9, preview teaching materials and ask questions about the resources used in the classroom.
Parents wishing to exclude their child from the HIV/AIDS curriculum required by our state must preview this curriculum and sign an exclusion form.
Parents of students in other grades will have the opportunity to preview curriculum in the Spring of 2023
COVID Update
In the event your student tests positive for COVID, please communicate with us ASAP. We would like you to contact our school nurse, Lorie Hunt by email: loraine_hunt@sumnersd.org . Ms. Hunt will conduct the intake and establish the return date for your student. The student's counselor will also assist with academic help, while the student is out of school. A general notification will go out to staff and families. No names will be published.
Please call the Attendance Office to report the absence: 253.891.5510. Absences related to Covid will be excused.
Weather Updates through SBLSD
Whether it’s snow, ice, flooding or severe wind with power outages, here are reminders to help you prepare for possible changes to bus and school operations.
- Refer to inclement weather procedures for an outline of what to expect regarding communications and operations.
- For safety reasons, there may be a need to offer limited transportation and use inclement weather bus routes. This means buses will generally run on main roads rather than side streets or through neighborhoods.
- NEW: We are now using “zones” (instead of letters) to define inclement weather bus routes. Please become familiar with the zone your child’s bus route falls within. This may be different from what you’re used to from last year. It is the responsibility of families to know if they live on an inclement weather route.
- Bus drivers will hand out hard copies with the inclement weather bus zone specific to your child on Nov. 21. For questions, please call the Transportation Department at (253) 891-6400.
- Follow us on social media for updates: Facebook, @SumnerSchoolDistrict; Twitter @SumnerSchools; Instagram, @SumnerBonneyLakeSD.
It’s important to keep in mind that while streets might be clear in the Sumner valley, that’s often not the case on the hill in Bonney Lake, where there’s considerable elevation and tight, winding roads.
