Guidelines for Moral Development
Child Development: Kayla J.
~Set clear standards of behavior
Teach children rules by explaining why the rule is important.
~Respond to inappropriate behavior
Deal with problems immediately after rules are broken and respond to repeated behavior in the same way.
~Talk about mistakes in private
Correct behavior in private so you don't humiliate the child.
~Understand that children will test the limits
As children develop, they try to break rules purposely. They then begin to understand acceptable and forbidden behavior.
~Consider the child's age and abilities
Remind children wrong from right as they may forget at times.
~It is a lifelong task to learn self-discipline
You can't expect kids to be perfect. Help them learn from their mistakes.
~Continue to show love despite misbehavior
Children need to know you love them despite wrongful behavior.
