A Message from Mrs. Guinan
February, 2019
Dear GJM Community,
2019 is off to a great start at the George J. Mitchell School!
We are now celebrating School Spirit Fridays! Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite George J. Mitchell School apparel or blue and white. Students and staff are have a great time with our school song challenge and our Mascot, the Osprey, has been visiting some classrooms!
On January 4th, an assembly was held to honor students who earned Academic Achievement, Character Education, and Bus Behavior Awards. Students received certificates and pins for their hard work and dedication. Congratulations again to all of the recipients.
We are excited to announce that our music teacher, Miss Renshaw, will be hosting an after school yoga program for third grade students. This will be a great way for students to learn calming strategies and become more mindful.
Katie Munn, our ESL teacher, is in the process of organizing our first ever Career Day! Information will be sent home in early February explaining how parents can sign up to be presenters. We will also be looking for volunteers to assist with the day’s events. After you receive the flyer explaining the day, please feel free to reach out to me, Deniese Guinan, with any questions you may have.
Enjoy February and stay warm!

Spelling Bee Champion-Lexi Loforte!
A big congratulations to her sister, Hayden Loforte, for being the 2019 School Spelling Bee Runner-up! We are so proud of both of them.
Mrs. Klements' 3rd Grade Class Making an Environmental Difference
Mrs. Klements' third grade class continues to collect the plastic for Trex every Friday. They love having this job and knowing that we are helping the environment! Here are some pictures of my students learning weights and measures by weighing our weekly bags of plastic! My students weighed 12 bags last week with a total of 78 pounds!
