The Viking View - Families
Tuesday January 5th
From the Desk of Principal Williams
I know that 2020 brought many challenging times for each of us and for our community. It also taught us many things, from new technology skills to revealing (yet again) our profound resiliency. It has also been a year of great accomplishment and a demonstration of our love for our school community, each other, and the desire to thrive in the face of adversity. As we move into 2021, let us take the lessons we have learned and continue to persevere and support one another.
We hope you all had an enjoyable break these past two weeks. I am grateful for the time I have been able to spend with my husband and two kids. As a parent, you know that your child will only be this age for a small amount of time. Some of the activities that we have enjoyed together over break are; Lots of outside exploring and walks, nerf gun wars in our house, building with Legos, reading, watching movies together (we turned out living room into a movie theater and even made our own tickets one day), and even playing video games together (one of my new favorite games to play with my oldest Jordan is Rocket League).
Our staff started working on an updated vision for Steele Lane. I would like to hear from you as well. Please consider attending a Zoom meeting this Friday (Link will be sent out Thursday afternoon and a reminder Friday morning), Come and Chat with the Principal - Ven y Conversa Con la Directora. Lizbeth will also be available for translation. Another opportunity to stay connected is through our ELAC meetings. Our next meeting is on January 19th at 1 pm, Lizbeth will be available to translate and the link for the meeting will be sent out the day before and the morning of.
In reflecting on 2020 I am most grateful for the health and well-being of my family at home and at school as well as being the Principal of Steele Lane. Thank you for all you do for your students at home during these challenging times. It is much appreciated and noticed.
With a grateful heart,
Principal Williams
Family Survey -Please Take the time to complete this
In Santa Rosa City Schools we value your input, feedback, opinion, and love hearing your comments. Last year we participated in the Youth Truth Survey and we will participate again this year. Youth Truth is a national nonprofit that harnesses student and stakeholder (that's you!) perceptions. This helps educators (that's us!) accelerate improvements at Steele Lane but also in Santa Rosa City Schools.
I am writing to ask for ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve our school. SRCS has asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on 1/29/2021 by clicking this link: http://www.ytsurvey.org/santarosafamily21
Please note:
· The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
· We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
· If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
Setting Goals/Resolutions with your Students
For kids, it is a great idea to think about New Year’s resolutions in a few ways:
- behaviors you want to become habits
- new opportunities for teamwork as a family
- a fun opportunity to see what your child wants do with the new year
- how they can participate more efficiently with their academics
4-day week
Future four-day weeks include the weeks of:
- January 18-22
- February 8-12
- February 15-19
Daily Work
- Please be sure your child is checking their platform each day. We use Seesaw and Google Classroom.
- Also, all students will benefit from doing 15-20 minutes on Lexia (Core5 for grades K-5, and PowerUp for grade 6) and LGL Math and Language Arts. These programs can be assessed through ClassLink.
