Take A Stand
By: Autumn Smet
Have you ever been bullied? Have you ever seen someone else being bullied? Well… how did you feel afterwards? How do you think other people feel afterwards? Come on. I mean seriously think, especially if you are the bullier. This might sound stupid but you need to think about these questions because they just might help you out. What is your reason for bullying people? Let me rephrase that: What is your reason for making another persons day miserable? Everyone has a reason! You know what, none of them are good enough to hurt someone else, though. For example: Have you lost someone that is the only person in the world who understands you? Did they fill your life with joy and enthusiasm every time you saw there smiling face? Well you might not believe this but I do: They will always, no matter what, be watching you. They will guide you when you are lost and help you through your sorrow. We both know though, that person would not want you to torture others’ lives, he/she would want you to live your life to the fullest. I know that sounds a little extreme but it happens all the time! All around us. What I’m trying to say is help people out! Granted, there will be hard times that you’ll have to go through; in school, at home, or even on the bus. Don’t let that bother you! After every dark day there is always another bright day around the corner.
Have you ever taken a look around you? Looked into the real world? Are you one of those people with a ton of friends or barely any friends? A lot of friends means a lot of support, right? Think about the people with little to no friends at all. Scarce amount of friends means scarce amount of support. Yeah, they might not have friends for a reason; you don’t like them, your friends don’t like them, they aren’t that flattering. The list goes on and on! Who cares about what they look like? I sure don’t! I believe no one should! It’s just like saying nobody wants to be your friend because you don’t look flattering or because their friends don’t like you. What really matters is their interests. Bet that you have heard that before because it’s completely true.
What I want everyone who reads this to do is go up to someone who you have not talked to or even hung out with, and find their interests. Yes! Find their interests and compare. I can guarantee that you will find at least one thing in common, even if it takes awhile. If that is too much, join PBIS. You and the other kids will already have something in common because you both will want to stick up against bullying. Who knows? Maybe you will make some friends along the way. So… TAKE A STAND!! Whether you have been bullied or are the bullier, you can take a stand against bullying and make a change in our school. Be proud to be a Sabish Bear. Oh… and live life with confidence and show off your breathtaking smile, because you are 1/1,000,000!
212 Degrees at Sabish
by Samantha Blackstad
At the beginning of the year, students came in like wild animals. Until, the Sabish Student PBIS Team tamed them with 212 degrees.
What is 212 degrees? It’s when water starts to boil, but in our school? It means taking that extra step to become even more positive.
The PBIS Team has made posters, t-shirts, and a video to get 212 degrees known. Mrs. Mussett is leading this fantabulous group of young enforcers. They obviously want to become positive role models.
What’s not to love about being positive? Well, some say it’s unnecessary to have 212 degrees. Why? Since some don’t witness bad things happening they say there is no need. Others say bullying is never going to stop.
While others think it’s a great thing! I asked sixth grader, Takyia, what she thinks about 212 degrees. She said that it is necessary “to show people that you should take things seriously to be positive.” She also stated that she likes 212 degrees because you know you are doing something right, not wrong. Sixth grader, Parker, agreed with Takyia. He also added “that you should be a friend not a bully.”
I asked Mr. Knowlton the same questions. He responded by saying that 212 degrees should happen everywhere not just in school. He said that 212 degrees is necessary because when you set a goal it will be easier to accomplish. He also stated that it’s something that everyone can connect to.
The final person I interviewed was eighth grader, Emily. She said that 212 degrees is important because it’s kind of like a bully restraint enforcement to prevent drama that goes on in school.
Well there you have it, there are many opinions, good and not so good, on 212 degrees.
Bullying
by Saischia and Lauren.
“There's nothing wrong with you. There’s a lot wrong with the world you live in.”
The first person we asked about how they feel about bullying was Artemio Arroyo, a seventh grader. We interviewed him in the hallway outside of Miss. Cedzo’s room. He had said he had been bullied, and that he didn’t feel very good after he had gotten bullied. We also asked him if he ever bullied someone, his response was yes, he has, but he didn’t feel good about it.
The next person we interviewed was Mr. Lock. He told us he had been bullied in elementary school, by Sheela Burns. Burns also bullied Mr. Locks younger brother. Eventually Burns stopped bullying Mr. Lock and his brother after Mr. Lock beat her up. Lock told us “ She beat me up at school, on the bus, it was terrible. She was like an amazon women.”
Kaitlyn Mohr was our next person. She said that people made fun of her earrings, but it did not make her sad because she don't care what people say about her. We interviewed her in the hallway, by Mr. Coon’s and Mr. Brady’s room.
After Kaitlyn we interviewed Carlos Martinez, an 8th grader. We asked if he had ever been bullied. He told us he had, in 4 or 5th grade a boy named named Addyson. He thought he was big and bad and he would try to beat kids up during school hours.
We interviewed the sixth grade science teacher Mr. Deli . We asked if he had ever bullied as a teenager, he said he had, but he regrets it all. Mr. Deli feels that bullying is wrong. He doesn’t like it. He said “It’s hard enough getting through the day as it is and it doesn’t help if someone bullies them.”
As you can see, bullying hurts others, and Sabish should put a stop to bullying. Its not right.
“Some people won’t be happy until they've pushed you to the ground. What you have to do is have the courage to stand your ground and not give them the time of day. Hold on to your power and never give it away.”
Bullying Movie Aftermath
By: Payten Wyrobeck and Treanna Breckheimer
On Friday, November 15, the whole school went on a field trip to go see the movie Bully. Following after we were put in multi-age groups to get different perspectives of the movie. We chose to write an article about the reviews and see if there has been any difference in bullying at Sabish Middle School.
We asked an assortment of people what they thought about the movie, if they noticed people stopping bullying, if they have done anything to stop bullying, and if they would recommend the movie to anyone.
Our first person was a 7th grade boy wearing athletic pants, and a yellow long sleeve shirt. We pulled him out of Mrs. Blatz’s room. For our first question we asked what he thought of the movie. He said it was sad and very disrespectful.
Our second person we interviewed was a girl in Mrs. Blatz room wearing a pink Aeropostale shirt and pink skinny jeans. She said in response to our first question that she thought it was sad. She said that she has noticed a difference in the school but couldn't really explain it. She says she hasn’t really done anything to stop it.
The next person we interviewed was wearing a JFL shirt with blue jeans. He told us that he liked the movie, but he did not think is was that sad and has not seen a difference in the school since the movie. He has not done anything to stop bullying because he has not experienced it yet. Last, he said that he would recommend the movie to people who are not emotional.
The fourth person we interviewed was wearing a sweatshirt and skinny jeans. She said that the movie was inspirational. She has not really seen a difference in the school. She is making a difference in the school by selling the Anti - Bracelets. She enjoyed the field trip and she would suggest it to any school that needs help.
The last person we interviewed was Miss Faris. She said that the movie was sad. She said that she has seen a positive change and if you see it you should report it. She said that now everyone has seen it that they should have a better understanding of how much bullies affect lives. Lastly, she said that she would recommend it to anyone and everyone. She said that people need to learn to stop it.
This is what these people thought of the movie. What we thought is that the movie was inspirational and sad. We now understand that is really hurts the person that is being bullied. Bullying is wrong and needs to stop. So as a school lets put a stop to bullying.
Anti-Bullying Action
By Lizzie and Kate
There is a craze sweeping the nation. It’s called Rainbow Loom. People have been buying it all over the U.S. How could such a thing be so cool, you might ask. Well we are here to tell you.
Lizzy and I have come up with a campaign known as, “PUT A STOP TO BULLYING!” The campaign features, Anti-Bullying Bracelets. They are a popular type of bracelet. They cost $1.00, and they are blue and purple. Blue represents bullying. Its harsh and cruel. We then picked purple to represent strength. Victims need to stand strong, use the strength they have hidden inside of them.
To put this campaign in action we decided to put flyers/posters up around the school. Lizzy and I also made an order form that is available in the office it is even available online.
Get this- none of the money goes to us; it ALL goes to the school. Remember if you buy someone a bracelet that you see being bullied every day, the world of Sabish will know that someone has witnessed them being bullied. Our first term will stop on December 20th and we want to sell at least a couple more bracelets so our school can be better benefitted. We will start it up again in January or February. Thank you for reading this message and remember don’t be a bystander be an upstander and stand for the silent.

Bullying
By Brooke Carlson & Samantha Vera
We interviewed 6th and 7th graders on their thoughts and other questions of the Anti-Bully friday we had. We also thought that by interviewing them about this topic, we would see if how many students took this ‘event’ serious.
We asked a couple of students and teachers about their thoughts on the movie “Bully”. Some students said that the movie was “sad”. Others said “it was touching to a lot of kids”. Most of them said “good and bullying is not okay”. The movie can make a big impact on the school. We also questioned if the bullying going on at Sabish changed.
Many students’ answered with yes and no answers, like “7th graders aren’t picking on the 6th graders as much”, from a 6th grade students’ point of view. Others pointed out, “a little bit has changed, and that there is plenty of bullying going on”.
The third question we asked was about their thoughts on the activities we had after the movie, which varied with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. A 6th grader stated, “It was helpful to work with the 7th and 8th graders because it was a big help to work with the 7th and 8th graders.
The fourth question we asked students, was their opinion on bullying. We got answers of “cruel, useless, wrong, rude, don’t get why people do it, horrible, what’s the point of doing it, and bullies need to get a life.”
Last question we asked the students was if they have seen bullying going on here, at Sabish, and if so, where? Students said they rarely see it, and when they do see it going on, it mostly happens in “hallways, lockers or outside.”
We invested in some reviews on the movie “Bully” and we got many different answer and thoughts. One review we thought was great, “If you can watch this film without tears coming down your face, well I’m convince you don’t have a heart. I plan on showing my daughter this film when she’s old enough. Powerful documentary. I’ve seen a follow up on it on CNN’s Anderson Cooper lately and it’s incredible to see how this film gave one of the young men who was bullied some new found confidence. Truly awesome to see! This film has the power to change lives. When making a documentary you couldn’t ask for a better outcome than that!”
Another relatable review we found was, “ THIS IS AN EYE OPENER. I never viewed bullying like this. It’s a MUST SEE. I do caution the average viewer of this film, because it is full of mourning and sadness, for it expresses the FULL story of every kind of bully instance that has a harsh result.” Last favorable review we found was, “An emotional thought provoking movie. IT makes you wonder if you’ve done enough in your life to make a difference. It is well put together and makes you think about what can be done to change such bigotry and hate.” The three reviews basically took the words out of our mouths, and couldn’t have said it better.
Overall, the movie was touching to many students and even some teachers. We believe that almost everyone who we interviewed, suggest the movie, like the reviews state.
Anti Bully Day
Cristal Ceballos
On Friday, November 15 the eighth and seventh grades went to Goodrich Little Theater and watched a movie about bullying called “Bully.” The sixth graders saw an edited version of the movie. The movie was about some kids that were being bullied. There was a boy that died because he was being bullied. After lunch, we were in groups with different teachers, and there were eighth, seventh and sixth grades together. Our group played four games: Bog Monster, Jump the Creek, a name game, and a game where, if you agreed, you stepped forward. When we were done, we went to the gym. There were three girls that made a big poster against bullying, and there were a lot of students going up to the microphone saying to stop bullying.
212 degrees
by Maggie, Skyler, Esther, and Kristi
“JACK IT UP!!” , of course Mrs. Rieder said that! She was very excited about the 212 degree project. What is the 212 degree project you ask. At 211 degrees water is hot. At 212 degrees it’s boiling. With boiling water comes steam. Steam is a wonderful source. It can go from clearing up your sinuses to clearing up your attitude!!
What does 212 degrees mean to you? Most 8th graders replied with, “Nothing really” or “I don’t really care, it’s not going to work.” Meanwhile lots of seventh and sixth graders said that you’re going the extra mile to stand up for other peers. We also asked if they thought it was helping the school. Landon Spies replied with, “No, not really. There will always be bullies no matter what.” Lots of other kids said the same thing. You might ask why most of the older kids think that it doesn’t matter or mean anything to them. Dawson Sokolik and Kylar Nicholson say that the reason the younger kids think it matters so much is because they “don't know how to roll.” Evan McEssey claims that “the little kids don’t understand how things work at middle school.” Then how do things work in middle school, Evan?
We also interviewed two other boys in the hallway, outside Mr. Brady’s class. They gladly got up to get interviewed so they didn’t have to continue with their homework. We asked them some follow up questions because we had interviewed them last week about this same topic. When we interviewed them the first time they had said the same thing that every other 8th grader had said, that they “didn’t care” or that “it wouldn’t have an impact because you can’t stop bullying.”
Many teachers believe it is helping. One of them for example is Miss Olson. She says that what 212 degrees means to her is that the people of Sabish are capable of going above and beyond, and are exceeding in the things they do. She said she was part of the committee that set up 212 degrees and she really enjoys being part of the team. She truly thinks it will put a positive impact on the school.
AS you can see, there are lots of different perspectives on the 212 degrees project. Some people think it’s helping our school, others don’t.
What did you learn in school today?
By Steven S and Tyler J.
Parents ask their kids a common question “What did you learn in school today?” and kids may respond with an also common answer “Nothing”. Well we went on a mission to figure out what exactly students are doing now days. First we asked what their favorite subject is. Most people said math. Others said social studies and language arts. Then we asked if they enjoyed what they’re learning. Finally, we asked if they think they’ll ever use this knowledge later on in life.
In the 6th grade, Landon S. was our first person we asked. He said his favorite subject was math. He’s learning how to multiply fractions. When we asked if he enjoyed what he was learning he said yes. Finally, when we asked if he thinks he’ll ever use this knowledge later on in life he replied with “I believe I will use this knowledge later on in life and that it could help me get a job like painting. You have to know fractions order to paint some of the painting.”
Then we went to the 7th grade. We questioned Emily C. and favorite subject is language arts. She is learning how to write children’s stories. She also said “I enjoy writing. It’s fun and enjoyable.” And she believes she’ll use writing to write a job report.
And last, but not least, we questioned Bencent X. of 8th grade. He is learning slopes in his favorite subject, math. Bencent enjoys slopes because “It’s fast, easy, and fun.” Bencent also believes he’ll be using this knowledge later in life because of his likings for electronics.
So next time if parents ask their kids “What did you learn in school today?” You’ll know exactly what happened.
German Lessons by Trevor Foris
“Guten tag Klasse” she says as she walks in the room. “Guten tag Frau Krueger” says the class as they rise into standing. She dismisses the students to sit. All the students in this class usually answer the questions ‘cause then they’ll get a piece of Deutsch Süßigkeiten(German Candy). Deutsch in my opinion is one of the easiest languages to learn how to speak the basics of speaking German.

Ashley George
A friend
Ashley George is a very friendly person, even though she can’t show her feelings as well as some other people, she is a very spirited person. Whenever she sees me she always has a huge smile on her face. When she doesn’t see me she gets upset because she doesn’t do well with change. I know there are some people that don’t make an effort to be friends with some people that are a lot different than them and I don’t wanna be one of those people because Ashley deserves to have a friend that really cares about her.
How Do Sabish Students and Teachers Celebrate the Holidays!
Deck the hall with boughs of holly, fa la la la la, la la la la, ‘tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, la la la la.
What is your favorite part of Christmas? Is it the music, the decorations, the food, or something else? Many students and teachers at Sabish celebrate Christmas, but exactly how do they and what do they do? We were walking down the 8th grade hallway when we ran into two students, Kaitlyn Mohr and Jennifer Lopez.
We first asked Kaitlyn what her favorite Christmas food was. “Brownies or mashed potatoes,” she answered after thinking about it for a few seconds. A few other students, including Jennifer, said that mashed potatoes was one of their favorite foods. We also asked Mr. Ehley what his favorite foods were. He said he and his brother get together every year and deep fry pizza rolls, onions and a lot of other things.
The next person that we asked questions was Mr. Coon. When we asked him if he dresses up for Christmas or not, he answered that sometimes they dress up formal and other times his family does something silly, like wearing tight pants with a random shirt. Other students said that they dress up with antlers and a really nice looking dress.
Do you listen to Christmas songs? Most students we asked said no, they didn’t, but one of their parents usually does. After getting all of these responses we finally found a 6th grader that did enjoy listening to christmas songs.
Most of the staff and students were in the Christmas spirit. Now are you in the spirit for the holidays?

Mental Worlds
Started by Megan Elford, Finished by Eva Last, Malina Vang, and Izzy Jahn
I’m sitting in German class, wondering when it will be over. The German teacher kept on lecturing the class, ignoring the bored faces all her students expressed. Naturally, my mind began to wander to other things, and before I knew it, I was in another mental world. I was pendulating on a piece of wood with a rope over a pond. I think you normal people call it swinging. As I was swinging, I looked down at my reflection. I saw it only for a few seconds at a time, but every single time I saw it, I saw the unmistakable globe which was, my head.
“Ms. Williams? Ms. Williams? Are you okay?” my German teacher asked. I looked around and saw that my desk had fallen over with me in it, probably because I was dream swinging.
“Yeah. I’m fine. I just wanted to find out what would happen if I tipped my desk and fell over,” I replied. Everyone stared at me with the same expression they always do: some sort of three-headed cat-dog with wings and horns. I mean, I should be used to it, but my face still turned bright red.
As I walked home that night, I wondered what we were having for dinner. Today’s Friday, so maybe we will have chinese food for dinner, like we do every Friday. I walk into the house and I'm greeted by my crazy dog, Cat. Don’t even ask why I called him that. I was probably daydreaming again like in German class. Cat has a special talent. Talking. Or, at least I wish he could.
“Hello, Cat. Are you hungry?”
Mentally, he answered me. “Woof!” which translates to “Yes, you idiot.”
So I fed him. I guess my life isn’t that bad I tell myself. I mean, I will always have my dog, Cat and I will always, always, always have my mental worlds.
My Flying Adventure
Started by Eva Last, Finished by Megan Elford, Malina Vang, and Izzy Jahn
Some people may say that I am a little, well, off. They would be right. I’m the kind of person who you would call crazy. Like when your children see me walking down the street, they point their grubby fingers at me and say,
“Look at at that crazy woman, Mommy!”
I just look away with a tear stained face. I mean, they are right and all, but sometimes, I wish I could fly away from it all. As I lay on my bed, I came up with a plan; a plan to be able to fly away.
It will start with a car, for somehow, I will have to get myself to the woods; to get away. I will drive into the woods, and with any luck, not being seen. Next, I will need to rent a hot air balloon to, you know, fly away. The problem was if anyone rented out hot air balloons in the middle of the woods. Luckily, I know a guy. I don’t mean to brag, but I did work at the balloon shop for a few years. After that, I will see where the wind takes me.
When I run out of hot air, I will land. Wow. I don’t know if that one needed to be explained. After my awkward landing, because I when my balloon runs out of air I would most likely crash, begin my awesome fly away adventure. I will land on the cliff of Mount Everest. I won’t exactly be flying, but it will feel like I’m on top of the world. I will rule the pandas in China, the zebras in Africa, the penguins in Antarctica. All of them.
“Oh no, come back!” I yell.
Well I accidentally let my plan run away, so I guess I’m not going to rule penguins anytime soon. It will be ok. I don’t even like penguins anyway.
Remembrance
Started by Izzy Jahn, Finished by Megan Elford, Malina Vang, and Eva Last
She told me her name was Dr. Ophrea. I asked the woman if I knew her, and she said, “Probably not...” So I went to the front desk and got one of those mints that cut you if you suck on them for too long. I tossed the mint into my mouth. I immediately spat it back out because I remembered something: I don’t like mints. I don’t know how I could forget, I mean it was my sense of taste, right? Anyway, I walked back to Dr. Ophrea and asked her about my condition. She had a serious look on her face. My stomach dropped.
She said, “It’s a rare condition that, frankly, we can not fix. We are trying our hardest at the moment to try and find a cure. At this point we don’t have anything we can do, except try and find a cure.” My sickness, by the way, is Schmevitis, an extreme case.
“Okay. Are there any other side effects that I have to look out for? Like maybe chicken pox or something?”
Dr. Ophrea looks down at her feet and says with this extremely quiet murmur, “With your level of disorder, you probably won’t even remember visiting me today.”
“Gee, that’s comforting!” I replied sarcastically.
Dr. Ophrea laughed awkwardly.
“I have done the best I can. Even with the different tests and everything we have done... We can’t stop it.”
“Well ok,” I said as I reached for another mint. I slowly placed the mint into my mouth, not caring if I liked mints or not because it didn’t really matter anymore.
She was right. That night when I came home, as soon as I walked through the front door, I had forgotten where I had been for the past previous five hours. “I just need to think positively,”
I tell myself. “Try to remember.” A phone rings. I answer.
“We are coming for you. Don’t try to hide. You won’t remember anyway.” The line clicks off.
I heard a car pull up to my window. Then a voice. I tried to hide. I ran to my parents room and to tell them. They came with me to my room. I saw a man, they didn’t. I tried to touch him. There was nothing there. My dad tells me to go back to bed. But I can’t. I can’t move. I can’t speak. My heart stops.
“Who do you think you saw Honey?” my dad asks.
“Grandpa.”
Identical
Started by Malina Vang, Finished by Megan Elford, Izzy Jahn, and Eva Last
Locked away from the world for many years, I stepped out again into the sunshine. My eyes strained to examine the scene around me. There was nothing but the cold, hard ground and a boat in a stream in front of me.
I climbed into the boat to see if there were oars. I stepped over scattered debris on the boat floor, and crouched to look under the seats. I didn’t find any oars, but something else small and shiny caught my eye under one of the seats. It was an old compass. It pointed to my right, down the river. I angled my body and moved around the boat, but the direction didn’t change.
For a second, I had the most preposterous idea; I would take the boat and go on an adventure. I know it sounds simple, but after being locked up for a few years, this amount of thinking can hurt your head.
I walked around looking for a large, broad branch. I found one leaning against the boat on the opposite side. I grabbed the stick, got in the boat, and followed the compass arrow and down the river.
For the first thirty minutes of my adventure, everything was calm. Nothing but me, the boat, and the river.
I followed the river down until I was positively and entirely lost. Then I saw a dark figure. It came closer to me. There was something in its hand. It was another human! I hadn’t seen another person since before the incident. Somewhat frightened, I quickly paddled with my stick-oar until I reached the other end of the shore. As I got closer to the person, I discovered that is was a little girl. Probably younger than me. I squinted hard to see the object she looked deathly afraid to let go of: It was a compass.
Identical to mine.

The Warning A Night Hunters story
By Meg Kiefer
Okay, before I start, I want to warn you again. These stories can be pretty terrifying. I would not suggest them to be read by children; sometimes even adults can’t stand them.
Anyway, so I’ll start off with the first story. It started off on a regular November night. Well, it was regular for your kind since this is the only and first time you’ll hear this story. For my friends and I it was the first time we were introduced to the things that run the night. My friends - who are now my work colleagues - are Jesse Davis, Becca McCain and Jacob Barton. We used to be regular kids like you, but then we changed. We didn’t change on purpose either. Trust me, if I could go back to that night, I wouldn’t have gone into that cemetery!
It was on a Friday. No, it wasn’t Friday the thirteenth if that’s what you were thinking. I don’t remember the exact date but it was November, and it was a Friday.
Jesse, Becca, Jacob and I were out and about walking around. It was around ten at night and we looking for anything to do to help us keep from dying of boredom when a man approached us.
He was average height and was wearing a long black coat and a black top hat, you know, like in the movies. He approached us and stopped in front of us. He spoke in a raspy low voice. “You children shouldn’t be out here, it’s dangerous.”
We thought he was crazy. A creepy man walks up to you and says something like that, it just isn’t normal.
Jacob spoke first. “We’re just walking around sir, and how is it dangerous?”
“There are things out here. Things that you won’t see because you don’t wanna see them, but they can see you. Go back to your houses and stay there until morning,” the man said and started to walk away.
Then he stopped.
“And stay away from the cemetery; it’s very unholy this time of night.” He continued on his way.
We watched the man disappear into the shadows of the street.
“Well that was creepy,” Becca said looking at us. I nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, who says something like that?”
“I don’t know, but I have an idea.” Whenever Jesse has an idea you know that he’s up to no good.
He told us his plan and Becca shook her head. “Didn’t you hear the man? He said to stay away from the cemetery!”
“That’s exactly why we should go!” Jesse remarked.
“I’m lost.” I said.
“Aren’t you even a little curious why that man warned us not to go in the cemetery?” he asked.
“Well yeah but...”
“Then let’s go find out, what could possibly happen?” Jesse asked.
“Well there are many things that could happen. It’s night and we’re kids...” Jacob started. “Dude shut up, lets just go.”
“Fine, but if anything is off we will leave, right?” Becca asked.
“Right.” So we started off.
We arrived at Charleston’s Cemetery at around ten-thirty. The gate was usually locked, but for some reason the gate was just swinging open then shut, open then shut. We exchanged uneasy glances then looked back at the gate.
“We should probably go in, right?” Becca asked shakingly. I looked at Jesse who didn’t look very confident anymore.
“Uhmm...yeah...yeah let’s go in,” he said walking toward the gate. I followed him with Jello-like legs, Becca and Jacob did likewise.
Gravestones were scattered around the cemetery like pine needles on a forest floor. I thanked God that there wasn’t any fog so far. Some of the gravestones looked like they were hundreds of years old and others looked pretty new.
“What’s so unholy about this place? Aren’t cemeteries supposed to be holy grounds because they’re next to a church or something?” Jacob asked.
“I thought they were always unholy because it’s where the dead is buried and some don’t always go where they’re supposed to go,” Becca said.
Jesse crouched next to a gravestone. “Well, according to the creepy top hat guy, this is a very unholy place at night,” Jesse said in a low funny voice pretending to imitate the man. BANG!
The noise made us jump, and at that point I knew we shouldn’t have gone there!

Dr. Who
by Brianna B. and Jordan B.
Imagine being an alien that is able to travel time and space, visiting planet upon planet, and befriending many different species and making enemies with others. That’s what the Doctor, a timelord who travels time and space saving planets from inevitable doom in a blue police box called the TARDIS, which stands for “Time And Relative Dimension In Space,” does.
“Doctor Who” is the longest-running TV show in the world, going on for 50 years. It airs today on BBC America, channel 106 on Charter and channel 264 on DIRECTV. According to BBC’s (British Broadcasting Company’s) website, “BBC AMERICA [is a TV network that] offers the best in British entertainment to U.S. audiences, with a robust lineup of sci-fi, comedy, reality, drama, documentary, and movies, all delivered in our [BBC America’s] uniquely British voice.”
The main, recurring character is called “The Doctor”, a timelord who destroyed his entire race, leaving him the singular timelord left. Using his police-box time-travelling machine, he travels across many eras and years, finding many species that eventually become his ally or his enemy. He travels with a companion or companions, which differs depending on the Doctor. He can regenerate, which is a lot like reincarnation. Each Doctor is played by a new person every time he regenerates.
Doctor Who started in 1963 with William Hartnell playing the first Doctor in “An Unearthly Child”. The series was then discontinued in 1989. It ended with the seventh Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy. Continuing this end of the original series, a TV film aired in 1996 with the eighth Doctor, who was played by Paul McGann. Unfortunately, it was ultimately was discarded due to the fact that no American channel would pick up the film.
Then, finally, on March 26th, 2005, the first episode of a restart of Doctor Who aired in the UK, with Christopher Eccleston playing the Doctor. A year later, it also aired in the United States. It continued to draw fans from all over the world.
The 50th anniversary special was celebrated on November 23rd. Fans of Doctor Who called “Whovians” all gathered round the TV for the simulcast of the episode called “The Day of the Doctor,” which aired in 75 different countries. It featured the War Doctor (John Hurt), the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), and the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith).
The next Doctor Who episode is the Christmas episode, which premieres on December 25th, 2013. It is the final episode of Matt Smith, and when Peter Capaldi will take his place as the twelfth Doctor.
Killing Kennedy: 50 Years Later
By: Nick Cannon, Larry Moua
As you may or may not know, one of the most famous assassinations in American history happened on November 22nd, 1963 in Dallas,Texas. The victim: The 35th president of the United States of America: John F. Kennedy, or JFK. Now, here we are, 50 years and 26 days later (assuming you are reading this on December 18th, 2013), wondering why the alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, did what he did. In a Gallup poll done in mid-November 2013, 61% of the people thought that there was a conspiracy/cover-up and 30% thought that Lee Harvey Oswald did it alone. Will we ever know Harvey did it? Not really. Harvey literally took the reason to the grave, because he was assassinated by Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby when he was being transferred to a county jail. Now we can only try and think why Oswald would sit of the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository building and attempt to kill JFK. However, we can try and piece together the facts and truly discover the reason why JFK was assassinated.
First, lets get background on Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald, an ex-Marine, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 18th, 1939. His early/teenage life is not relevant to this story, but it should be known that he had no dad living in his life. Oswald became a Marine at 17, and left 3 years later due to his mother’s failing health. Oswald then defected to the Soviet Union for a couple of years, and met a woman who became his wife just 6 weeks after they met. His wife gave birth to a child, and Oswald decided that it would be best to move back to the US, despite having a wife and child that spoke little English. Oswald then managed to get fired many times in Dallas from his jobs, and even attempted to assassinate Edwin Walker, a retired US Major General, but failed. So he decided to move to New Orleans. There, he got arrested for trying to help save Cuba by handing out flyers. Eventually, Oswald was released and after spending a little more time in New Orleans, he moved to Mexico. Oswald didn’t do much in Mexico, except attempt to try and help Cuba get out of the wrath of the US. After the attempts became pointless, he moved back to Dallas.
There, he got a job with his neighbor at the Texas School Book Depository building, and then he heard about JFK coming to town, in which he was highly interested. Then on Friday, November 22, 1963, Oswald went to work with a package. His neighbor who drove him testified that Oswald said the package contained curtain rods, but it really contained the rifle used in the shooting. Then, as the President was coming close to the building where he worked, Oswald got ready. His co-workers went downstairs to see JFK on the streets, while Oswald stayed upstairs “to do some more work.” Then, at 12:30pm CT, Oswald fired 3 shots at President Kennedy. Kennedy was severely injured, and died reportedly before the car could make it to the Hospital. Governor John Connally, who was seated in front of JFK, received the backlash of the shots and was injured, but survived. Neither of the wives of the gentleman were injured in the shooting. Oswald then fled.
Oswald was reporting missing by his supervisor Roy Truly to the Dallas police. Oswald, meanwhile, attempted to walk away from the situation. After the police received news that Oswald was missing, the patrol cars around the city began to look for Oswald. Officer J.D. Tippit found him eventually, but Oswald quickly fired 4 shots at him and killed him instantly. Oswald then went into a movie theater, where he was surrounded and arrested on the charges of killing Tippit, with the charges of Killing JFK still not being thought about. Eventually, the police put it together, and there were now 2 charges against Oswald. Unfortunately, those charges never were officially put to trial, because 2 days later, Jack Ruby killed Oswald in a prison transfer.
So, why did Jack Ruby killed Oswald? Well, Ruby pursued an exoitc dancer named Gail Raven in January of 1963. Raven then talked to Ruby’s mother and confirmed that Ruby’s mother was still alive, and both of them were still in contact. Raven asked Ruby’s mother if she could share some memories with Raven, especially about why her son killed Lee Harvey Oswald. Ruby’s mother said that “He was not in love with the Kennedys and did not like Robert Kennedy by no means.” After the phone records of Jack Ruby were shared by the JFK investigators, it showed that in 1962-1963, Ruby made phone calls to no less than the seven organized crime figures that were prosecuted by JFK’s brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.
So, we hope that this at least helps you develop a better hypothesis on why Oswald and Ruby did what they did. Also, this may help you either support or change your reasoning on whether or not there was a conspiracy behind the whole assassination. For more in-depth information on this matter, visit Wikipedia pages entitled John F. Kennedy, John F. Kennedy Assassination, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Jack Ruby. Also, there are many movies/documentaries on this matter, such as Killing Kennedy on National Geographic or The JFK Assassination on CNN, and we highly encourage you to watch them both. We hope you enjoyed this article, and we hope that you enjoy the rest of this newspaper.
JFK assassination affects today
“Do you know anything about the JFK assassination?” Three 8th graders, along with three 7th graders, provided some insights into our knowledge of American History.
We asked them, “If so, what do you know about it?” and, “Does anything from that day still affect you today?” The most common answers people told us about the assassination was that President Kennedy was shot in the throat and head, he was with his wife in an open top car, he didn’t make it, and it was on November 22, in Dallas, Texas.
About four out of the eight people who were interviewed knew at least a little information about what happened that day. The younger generation doesn’t seem to be affected to this day by the assassination. On the other hand, the older generations, such as our parents, say that they still feel like they are affected by the assassination. People that were alive at that time view it as a traumatic experience.
Seeing the statistics, about half of our generation, knows about this assassination. Schools still make an effort to try and get kids to look back and see what happened on that day in history. November 22, 1963 will be a date to remember, especially in Dallas, Texas.

China’s ADIZ
By Joseph Gruening
China has recently expanded an area of restricted ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zones) that has concerns from other countries. The U.S. is protesting by flying bomber jets over the ADIZ to show they are not complying. Part of the zone is in Japan’s ADIZ and Japan is reacting by protesting alongside the U.S. The world has no idea of what China is exactly doing. And China is staying silent on the matter. What could could possibly go wrong?! Well a lot.
First off, China should get special permission from other countries to get into their airspace. China’s zone extended into Japan’s area and Japan is outraged. China has been reportedly sending ships into Japans area without permission for years and now they take this action! China has some nerve.
The Senkaku/Dinoyu Islands are controlled by Japan but is apparently claimed by Beijing. The islands are disputed mainly by Japan and China, but other countries have recently intervened. The islands are majorly fought over and China is claiming them without treaties. There is rising tensions.
In response to China’s action, the US did a drill sending two unarmed B-52 bomber jets from Guam traveling over the Senkaku/Dinoyu Islands and back to Guam as a protest. China has not reacted to the response but if China does react there is no telling of how or what they will do. Since the U.S. is doing normal procedures then they will be sending a lot of ships and planes in the ADIZ in the future and China might be like a volcano. If you build up enough power (sending plans/ships) China might erupt in great anger and who knows what might happen. But at this time, China has not reacted to the United States’ protest, but maybe in the near future there might be a response. A possible bad response.
There is controversy on what China is exactly doing in the ADIZ but they do know that the Senkaku/Dinoyu Islands is the main port and main airport. If China is doing something against international treaties then the U.S. will react with defensive measures and will not put up will tomfoolery in foreign countries.
At this time the U.S. is not accepting China’s new ADIZ and will proceed with normal drills in that area. Other countries in that region will also proceed by doing normal drills and will not look up to China’s new plan.
Animal Abuse
by Lorraine, Casie and Mickayla
The dog whimpered as his owner beat him. Why would the owner do such a thing to a poor innocent animal? We did an interview on what people think about animal abuse. We interviewed teachers, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders . Most of them gave the same type of answer which was agreeing that they think animal abuse it harsh. Read on to see what their opinions are on animal abuse.
The very first quest we asked was “Do you think animal abuse is harsh?” and every person we interviewed, said yes. The second question we asked was “Would you try to help stop it if you could?” The third question we asked was “Why would anyone want to be cruel to animals?”. Finally, the very last interview question we asked was “How would you try to stop it?”
Everyone agreed that animal abuse is wrong and harsh. We are sure there is so many other people who’d agree. If everyone chipped in to help, we could get animal abuse to stop. Many people wonder how to stop animal abuse. A good way to stop it is to help out at an animal shelter. But there are not a lot of ways to prevent it because there's always going to be people in the world that will act like their life revolves around them. They don’t care about anything besides themselves. People who are animal abusers disgust me because it hurts me knowing that people want to or enjoy hurting animals. Know matter what you do to try to prevent it, there will always be some people who will still do it. They don’t learn and they don’t care.
Hunting-A Wisconsin Tradition
Hunting
By Evan M and Kylar N
Hunting is a sport in which you shoot a certain animal to control the population of said animal. Hunting takes a lot of patience and stamina. You can keep a part of an animal as a trophy, may it be the head of a deer and you mount it on your wall.
For hunting, you wake up very early in the morning, the average time is around 4-5 am. You get up early in the morning because that’s when the animals are most active, in the morning and at night. Basically whenever it’s dark out. You sit out in the woods up in a tree stand or down in a blind and wait for the animal while trying not to fall asleep. You sit out in the woods for maybe 3 hours or longer, depending on the temperature of course. Sitting still in the cold can really take its toll on you, but it is worth it when you get to put a shot in whatever animal you are hunting.
Hunting is usually passed down from generation to generation from father to son or sometimes father to daughter. It’s the one time of the year when you can go up north and have fun with the people you love, and get to miss school. Hunting is one of the things that defines what Wisconsin is and it will be continued for generations to come.
Hunting- The Female View
By Jasmine and Alexis
Do you ever feel that gut wrenching feeling, as you feel your heart beating so fast, that you feel like any moment, it could just pop out of your chest? Well this entire article is about nothing other than that.
Let's talk about disguising yourself in the woods. The perfect place is where you can see the animal but the animal can’t see you. Most people would try to be on the ground somewhere, but as studies show its better to be in a stand than on the ground, because you can get away with moving more than they would on the ground and the cause of that is deer scan the ground when they’re on the move to watch for danger. Another good reason to be in the air than on the ground is when the wind blows the hunter’s scent is well above the ground so the deer can’t smell you and run.
What you wear while hunting may not seem very important, but what you wear while you hunt can either make or break a good hunting experience for you. Here are some tips on what you should wear while hunting. Here are some clothing tips for your base layer. “A good base layer should consist of a moisture-wicking, bacteria killing, undershirt and shorts. In cold weather, a thermal base is recommended, and will help keep you warm in the winter. A quality pair of wool socks is another important base layer, in which many hunters underestimate,” says Megan Butler or Yahoo! Voices.
Tips for a middle layer: “If you are expecting a cold morning, and a warmer afternoon, your middle layer should consist of a short or longsleeve camouflage shirt, that can be exposed if the temperatures start to rise. For hunting in cold weather, like today, a middle layer is less important, because you are less likely to expose it. Your thermal layer is more important in this case.” says Butler.
To finish up your hunting wear, here is some suggestions for your top layer. “A good hunter needs a top layer that is quiet, camouflaged, and roomy enough to allow for maximum freedom of movement. Many hunters opt, or make a choice, of camouflage pants or a jumpsuit, and a wind-breaking jacket. Camouflage jumpsuits also come in cold-weather varieties, and when paired with a heavy jacket, makes for great cold-weather-beating-wear. To top off your outfit, your top layer should consist of a pair of sturdy, waterproof pair of boots, gloves, and a camouflage hat. Make sure you have AT LEAST 400 square inches of fluorescent orange, such as an orange vest.” says Butler.
Those are your tips for what you can wear for hunting. I hope you had a great deer hunting season!
What are Sabish students thinking? Opinion Section
Arts vs Academics; The Fault in Today’s Education Systems
by Emily Ott
Ever notice how children are often the most imaginative thinkers? Then through a series of lectures at school and today’s society’s ideas, we lose that one thing that is essential. We lose that way of imaginative thinking. We lose that way of creating new ideas. Many put it as, “we grow up.” Many adults reserve the creative mind only to be at a child’s disposal, and it truly is a major problem. Because of things such as budget cuts arts are the first to go, and this is just wrong. Many teachers are angry that their students aren’t engaged. To solve this, taking away the arts is probably the worst decision officials could make.
Two assistant professors, Susan Gotez Zwirn and Mark Graham have done extensive research on this matter. And I must say, it is quite impressive. Their theories are quite complex, but yet very easy to understand. They say that, “The arts are often viewed as emotional outlets to be reserved for children.” Art alone is simply art, but once integrated with other subjects, it creates new innovative ways of thinking, understanding, and representing knowledge. In the current education environment, we have such objective measurements and teaching methods that it is often difficult for children to piece things together. The continuous cycle of study and test has caused school to become less vibrant and more black and white. In turn, school has become less interesting, and in some cases, more depressing. This directly affects children and their attitude towards both learning and the idea of school.
First, I can take this from a scientific viewpoint. In our brains, there are two hemispheres, the right and the left. The right side thinks creatively and the left thinks logically. In order to use our full potential, we need to use both sides. In school, we often use the left. That needs to transition. As many have said, if you don’t use it, you lose it. And this is ultimately why we are losing our creative ways of problem solving.
What is there to lose in valuing questions, ideas, and creative thinking? This idea has been dismissed by many, but really, how logical is our current way of teaching? Children in school come across many new things everyday that should be interesting. Yet, they complain about school and are bored to death by their textbook. They spend painful hours of studying only to forget what they learned days after the test. Why not shoot for something more?
Many teachers have not had significant experience with the arts. In fact, many believe that they are not a “creative type.” Many say, “I have no talent.” Well, not with that attitude! The only way to be creative is to be exposed to new, different, inspiring ideas. And all children are exposed to is hours of textbook.
Many people have become critical of the importance of art. I am about to share something many people don’t consider. Creativity isn’t always about a painting or a song. It isn’t always about a poster or a project. Creativity is something within itself. It is many things. Creativity is what leads to new ideas. New ideas lead to innovation. Innovation leads to a better society. Creative thinking leads to a world many can only imagine. We can learn to once again be creative thinkers, and it all starts with our foundation in learning, school.
In our society there are unanswered questions. And sometimes, the only way to answer them is to do something different. To start something new. To think outside of the textbook binding. I was always told, “When you think how everyone is thinking, you do what everyone else is doing. And that is how you get nowhere.” One way to be different from everyone else is to find the will within yourself, and share what you have to offer with the rest of the world.
The arts should be the heart of our education systems, and here is why. Art creates. Learning is really creating in disguise. While learning, we are really just creating thoughts in our head. And what better way to do so than having a strong connection at creativity at its core? Creativity helps us make connections. It directly calms the mind and raises its capacity of potential. It is a direct link between our lives, learning, and creating.
Thinking creatively helps us ponder questions of meaning, identity, justice, and freedom. With tests, knowledge is reduced to one correct answer, with creative learning, children experience unique distillations through questions and knowledge. With schools built by sturdy rules and standards, there is limited room for personal exploration. Also, students that are different are seen as trouble. A foundation with creativity at its core humanizes the school experience and students can personally connect themselves to ideas in the world. People are allowed to be different in this environment. It allows room for theoretical thinking, a skill that many today don’t have. When a student takes a test, results are recorded and the product is discarded. When producing art, more often than not, the results are worth keeping.
When teaching in a creative format, students are presented with problems. They experience the struggle of discovering a suitable answer. They experience taking chaos and putting it into structure. They solve the problems as if the problem was their own. They solve it as if they are in the real world, not a sheltered place for trial, error, and no effect. They must take the initiative to really think about their goal, and what they must do to complete it. They solve problems in a way that can express a thought as well as creating emotions. In this way, students learn by their experience, not from distant authorities.
Art engages students in many ways. An arts integrated curriculum helps students drive their goals even higher, and this is a win for teachers. An arts integrated curriculum helps a student find their voice, and that is the most valuable thing one can ever learn.
To conclude, arts is needed. There is always a demand for a better society, and this is how we can achieve that. Even though we have standards in schools, it isn’t enough for students to really want more for themselves. It isn’t enough to drive anything forward. And if we want to change something, this would be a good start.
Chromebooks: Good or Bad?
Chromebooks: good or bad? Everyone is amazed by the new technology used in the schools, but is that the technology that the schools are looking for? Some say yes, some say no.
Many people around the school were skeptical about the Chromebooks. The first person we talked to was Dave from 6th grade. He liked how they were light and easy but he didn’t like how they break a lot. He prefers to use paper and pencil at times but at certain times he likes to use the Chromebooks. 6th graders like Jessie, who seemed nervous, thinks they are awesome and she loves the keyboard layout. The thing that she doesn’t like is the screen and the sign-in at the beginning. When we asked her what she preferred, paper and pencil or Chromebooks, she said she liked the Chromebooks more.
7th graders were more outgoing. 7th graders, like Bailey said that the Chromebooks are easier than paper and pencil with the bigger and easier to read words. He also likes how the screen is also big. Although he said carefully that they broke too much. He overall liked Chromebooks more. Some 7th graders said that they were easier and faster than paper and pencil. Although they were smaller than the Apple Macbooks, they broke much more easily. A hungry 7th grader heading to lunch, Imaan, said that they were worse than a Macbook but better than a book. She liked Chromebooks more overall.
8th graders were skeptical about the Chromebooks. The first person chose to be anonymous said the Chromebooks were slow and broke easily. Carefully, she said they were a good product for the price, going by the fact that they don't cost much. Overall she liked paper and pencil more. The next person was Abe and he said that they needed to be improved. He didn’t like how you had to sign in at the beginning and that it got annoying. Overall he liked paper and pencil more.
Our principal, Mrs. Luft, absolutely loves the Chromebooks. She thinks that iPads would be good for math and science, but are much too expensive! She thinks that the processing was good and the chromebook has all of the needed features and allows the use of the three C’s plus one: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. She thought that the battery power could be increased and that one iPad is the equivalent to two Chromebooks and one Macbook is the equivalent to possibly four Chromebooks.
Some teachers have the same opinion and some have different opinions. Mr. Bartow thought that the Chromebooks are alright and that it meets what they need. He says that he likes Apple more and that the Chromebooks could still be improved greatly. Ms. Schneider, the English teacher, enthusiastically stated “They are easy to use, there are no software updates, I love bringing the cloud to the device. Its a shame that there is no flash player. There are so many opportunities for Chromebooks. There are all these different brands. I think they transform the classroom. But that’s all because of the Google apps. We could use other laptops, but that would mean servers, sharing, and other rough things. The keyboard makes it feel like a computer instead of a tablet.”
Although some people think that Chromebooks are good. Our survey says the majority wants to use paper and pencil instead of the Chromebooks. But give your opinion and take our survey! The results will be in the next issue!

Lunch Interview
by Nickole and Jade
We interviewed some students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade about our lunches this year. Some of the sixth graders liked the lunches here better than the elementary lunches they had last year. 7th graders and 8th graders are on the same thing, they dislike the lunches this year than last year.
Our first question we asked was, “Do you enjoy the lunches here at Sabish?” Most of the 6th graders like the lunches here at Sabish becauses it’s different from what they had from last year, they have more varieties of food that they can pick out. On the other hand, 7th and 8th graders didn’t agree so much. The 7th and 8th graders dislike the food here, “It’s disgusting, not real food.”
Our second question was, “What is one thing you would want to change with the lunches?” All of the students from each grade said the everyday meals which are the hamburgers and the sandwiches and with the cards for 7th grade lunches. Which is when a staff calls off a number of a card and the tables would have to wait to get called up to get their lunches.
Finally, our last question was, “Do you think we should add more varieties to the lunches?”. One 6th grader we interviewed said we should add nothing to the lunches and everything was good the way it is. But, 7th and 8th grade disagrees. Both 7th and 8th graders think we should add real food from stores and just bake the food at the school.
In conclusion, not many students at Sabish Middle School like the food. The students think we should change almost everything we have for lunch, some don’t think we need too.
School Lunch opinion
From the information we have gathered came to a conclusion that the majority does not like school lunch and we should change it up so its healthy and still tastes good. Like if they give us celery they should let us have peanut butter to dip it in and ranch for those who are allergic. They should make the food nice and fresh. I can’t trust this food in lunch I feel like it’s fake food with artificial flavors. The food here isn’t good.
As you can see, the students of our school do not find our school lunches satisfying. We believe there are few students that enjoy the food. Although the food is healthy for us and the lunch program is worried about our health, they could still find a way to make the food taste better then it is. And have a day or two of the week where we have homemade entrees. I believe this would satisfy the students all around the school system. It would be harder and take more time to work on the food but it would taste a lot better.

Girls Basketball
By: Brooke Hubbard, Kaitlyn Mohr
Shooting you all of the Sabish girls basketball news from players to coaches at all different grade levels. In the upcoming season players will learn and improve skills, communication and more! We interviewed Sarah Pipei, Shea-Lynn Gerred and Emily Wood, asking them questions about the new season! We also interviewed Coach Bell and Coach Hammer.
Kaitlyn and I asked the question
“Are you looking forward to basketball? Why?”
All the players answered yes because they all love basketball, like to compete and have fun. As we like to have fun as well!
Shea-Lynn and Emily dressed in the typical clothes of t-shirt and sweat pants, they said they both like to play the position of point guard. Sarah from 6th grade wearing jeans and a pink peace sweatshirt, said she loves playing shooting guard.
The last question we have for the players, “Do you get nervous or scared at tryouts or before a game?” Everybody answered, no because they all have self confidence.
Brooke and I asked Coach Bell and Coach Hammer some questions. We asked
“What do you look for in a basketball player?”
Mr. Bell said he looks for a coachable player, also to do what they are asked. Also willing to give there all at practice and games. He said he is very excited for the season, and this is his first time coaching at the same school he teaches at. He said its a benefit to know the players outside of school. “Be ready to play,” said coach Bell.
Coach Hammer said she looks for a player that gets along with everybody, has a great attitude, and puts hard work into it. Shes really excited for the season to start. Coach Hammer wants to make sure she stresses everyday habits.
This is the latest news about the exciting upcoming girls basketball season.
Sabish Basketball-Boy Teams
Wil Everson, Abe Stoffel-Murray, Collin Clark
We interviewed 9 kids to share their thoughts on how their team is doing, and how they feel about their coaches in the current 2013 season. In this interview, we talked to three sixth graders three seventh graders and three eighth graders. The people we interviewed are Kaden Krug(7), Grey Newton(8), Kevin Wilson(6)
First we interviewed Kaden Krug. He plays point guard for the 7th grade travel team. Kaden likes his coaches and he feels that they are having a great season with an 8-3 record. We wish good luck to Kaden and his team for the rest of the season.
Next we interviewed Grey Newton. ”Mr O’hearn is quality at being a quality coach”, Grey said. He also said “we need to work on being good at basketball.” We wish Grey’s team the best of luck for any future games.
Also we interviewed Kevin Wilson, a 6th grader. He likes his coach and thinks they are doing good so far. “We won our first game, so I hope that gives us a good start”, Kevin told us.
Bullying in the NFL?
How can big lineman feel bullied by each other? The news from the Miami rookies Dolphin locker room…
We interviewed 9 seventh and eighth grade kids. Most people said they should fine and suspend the players who bully. They all feel pretty much the same way about it. The students think the NFL should take care of the bullying and it isn't right. For example, Caden said, “I feel terrible that grown men would bully other grown ups.” Kyle believes they should fine the players who bully other players. We interviewed kids who watched and knew stuff about football because they would know about what happened with the Dolphins linemen. Although locker room hazing is normal for now, they took this hazing/bullying beyond the average joke. Richie Incognito called Kevin Martin the extremely inappropriate “n” word and threatened to kill his family. In an interview with Richie he stated “He was joking about what he said, and that Kevin and him talked like that to each other.”
Kentucky Wildcats NCAAB
by Cody and Trevor
Wisconsin basketball with an up and down season last year might give Kentucky a run for the championship. Will the freshman for Kentucky be able to win if they do not have the leadership from returning players? Their starters are all freshmen and they score most of the points. A lot of people wonder why all the top freshman go to Kentucky. There are two reasons. They have a good coach, John Calipari, and they are known for winning. Kentucky has won eight NCAA National Championships.
Six basketball players were interviewed and all beside one think Kentucky is a well rounded team. More people believe Kentucky doesn’t have what it takes to win another National Championship; this was four out of six people saying Kentucky won't win the National Championship. Going along with the well rounded team the Kentucky Wildcats score, handle the ball, and block shots well. There are teams that will and have gave Kentucky a hard time. These teams the basketball players said would be Michigan State, Duke, Kansas, and Wisconsin. As of now the Kentucky starting freshman have a record of 8- 2. Only time will tell if Kentucky will make it to the National Championship.Miami Dolphins
by:Payton Torgersen
The Miami Dolphins are hanging on the edge of the earth with their chances of getting the wildcard is still shining bright. The record the Dolphins have is 7-6 and their competing with the New York Jets (6-7), San Diego Chargers (7-7), Tennessee Titans (5-8), Pittsburgh Steelers (5-8), Baltimore Ravens (7-6), Oakland Raiders (4-9), Jacksonville Jaguars(4-9), Cleveland Browns (4-9) and Buffalo Bills (4-9). This week the Dolphins vs the Patriots will be a big game for the wildcard spot. The top dogs for the wildcard are the Baltimore Ravens (7-6), San Diego Chargers (7-7) and the Miami Dolphins (7-6). Right now if the playoffs were to start the Baltimore Ravens would be in the playoffs because of a head-head tie-breaker. This means that Baltimore has won one game against the dolphins. San diego has played one more game then these people so then this puts the Ravens and Dolphins a ½ a game ahead. The Dolphins can still win the division if they win every single game and the patriots lose every game. The Dolphins basically control their own destiny to the playoffs. As you can see the Dolphins are still hanging on the edge of the earth.
THE PACKERS
by Nick Kellar
It’s the packers, but the packers are on losing streak instead of a winning streak. The packers score board is 5-5-1. Wow what a game on Week 12 with the Packers and Vikings they put in Matt Flynn the last two quarters of the game and Matt Flynn bailed out the Packers with bringing them back by putting the game into overtime, and eventually making it a tie game. One of the best games I have ever watched. Also, Matt Flynn should have been put in the Packers four weeks ago, not Scott Tolzien. If the Packers keep Matt Flynn rollling, will they win the rest of their games until Aaron Rodgers comes back from his injury? The Packers are not at the top of the game, and if they do make it to the playoffs they may struggle. The reason for that is I think the Packers should just stop their season and practice for next season to come back bigger and badder and better!
Marshawn Lynch
by Hunter, Dakota, Spencer
Marshawn Lynch is a one of a kind, fast runner who can run through linemen, linebackers, and safeties. He can also be a good wide receiver because of his speed. Marshawn Lynch is a beast; you can't stop him unless you trip him up by his feet.
