Tilghman Tiger Talk
September 17, 2021 Principal Update
2021-2022 School Year
Dear Tilghman Families,
Thank you for making our Back to School Showcase Thursday night a huge success. It was a joy to see our families and to have an opportunity to share in the fantastic and exciting learning that's taking place here at TES. (See below for pictures)
It's hard to believe how quickly time is passing and that Thursday, September 23rd is the end of the first quarter interim. Interims will be sent out Wednesday, September 29th and October 1st will be an early dismissal (12:05) for parent/teacher conferences in the afternoon.
MCAP:
We will start our Fall administration of MCAP this week for our 5th grade students on Tuesday (21st), Wednesday (22nd), and Thursday(23rd). Testing will begin at 9:00. Please do your best to be on time.
PBIS & TES PAWS:
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior school wide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement.
The PBIS committee has introduced the following PAWS for our TES students, staff, and community.
P=Practice Kindness
A=Accept Responsibility
W=Work Hard
S=Support Others
FARMS:
Please note that your previous FARMS application expires on 10/13/21. Although all students will receive free meals this school year, thanks to a grant TCPS received for this purpose, we would like to request that all families still complete the annual FARMS application. This application will help secure additional benefits for our students and our school, throughout this school year and into the start of the next school year. These applications help us receive funding for student meals, provide materials of instruction, and fund positions within the building. If you haven't sent in your completed form, please do so asap. A link is provided for your convenience. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Parent Advisory Committee:
We will be having our Parent Advisory Committee meetings once a quarter on Zoom at 5:30 p.m. in conjunction with our PTO meetings. Our first meeting is scheduled for October 14th. During our PAC meetings, we ask for input and feedback from Tilghman families to improve the school experience for students and families.
Attendance:
Now that all schools are returning to full time in person learning, all aspects of the TCPS attendance policy and administrative regulations (10.2 & 10.2 AR) are in effect for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. Accordingly, please review and contact your child's school counselor should you have questions.
Donations:
We are in need of disposable (child-size) masks, water bottles, or bottles of water for our students. Your donations are greatly appreciated and will help us tremendously.
Safety & Covid:
Update: On September 14, 2021, The Maryland General Assembly mandated masks be worn by all individuals while in TCPS school buildings. The two main exceptions are for students who engage in authorized sleep time (Pre-K students during rest time) and students who are actively engaged in exercise, for example in Physical Education Class.
We continue to follow all CDC, Talbot County Health Department and TCPS health protocol, procedures and precautions. Students are expected to wash hands, use hand sanitizer, and wear masks. Masks should fit securely over the nose. We are adhering to 3 feet distancing as much as possible. Please note that if your student has a pending COVID test, he/she may not return to school until the results are in and they are negative. Thank you for your cooperation as we are committed to keeping all students and staff healthy and safe.
If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

FALL MCAP TESTING
THIS WEEK: 5th Grade Students will test Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Current Grade 5 students:
4th Grade ELA= September 21st and 22nd
4th Grade Math= September 23rd
As part of continued COVID-19 recovery efforts, the Maryland State Department of Education is conducting the Early Fall Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) for students currently enrolled in grades 4-5. The results of these assessments will help educators better understand student needs as we move forward in the 2021-2022 school year.
Students will take two assessments, one in English Language Arts (ELA) and one in Mathematics. Both assessments are abbreviated versions of the MCAP assessments that are typically administered each spring. The Mathematics assessment consists of two 30 minute sections, while the ELA assessment is two 70 minute sections. The purpose of the Early Fall Test Administration is to assess students on standards and skills from their previous grade level. Therefore, students currently in grade 5 will complete the grade 4 ELA and Mathematics MCAP assessments and students in grade 4 will complete the grade 3 ELA and Mathematics MCAP assessments this fall.
Please see the flyer from the Maryland State Department of Education that includes more information on MCAP below.
Current Grade 4 students:
3rd Grade ELA= September 28th and 29th
3rd Grade Math= September 30th
