ORCHARD HILL HAWK TALK
Be Safe - Be Respectful - Be Responsible - Be a Hawk!
APRIL 10, 2020
Greetings from Principal Carpenter
This has been such an unusual week as we all settle in for a whole new way of doing everything. We found out this week that schools will not return to a regular school schedule (students in the classroom) for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. We will continue with the Distance Learning Program for the remainder of the school year.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to get information and systems organized to share with you. You can check the district website for up to date information. At the elementary level we are tracking students' academic progress in reading and math for the remainder of the year. Teachers are also providing supplementary activities for students to help their academic growth.
It is important for students to spend time reading and completing assignments assigned by teachers in order to continue academic growth and be prepared for next school year. We are here to support you and work with you to help your child's progress.
This week we distributed several hundred Chromebooks to students and we are working hard to get all of our students connected. We will be delivering on Mondays until we run out of Chromebooks to loan out. We will continue to send out our school newsletters and use our communication system to keep you up to date on guidance from the state in regards to public education. Please keep in communication with your child's teacher and our office phone is being answered during the day if you have questions.
Student Supplies Pickup
TUESDAY, APRIL 14TH FROM 8 - 2 p.m.
Please come by the school next TUESDAY, APRIL 14th, between 8 - 2 p.m. You will not get out of your car. We will have staff members that will hand the bag to you curbside. It will be similar to our afterschool pickup.
Note, this is for students that have NOT already received their supplies from their teacher. Some teachers have already arranged delivery to their students. Questions? Call our office at 541-779-1766.
Google Classroom
We are excited about this new adventure in trying out new ways of learning. Some families are not able to connect with the internet regularly, and we will work individually with those families to provide non-digital materials. Just as we are learning new teaching methods that involve technology, we understand that you are too! We are attaching a brief but valuable tutorial on Google Classroom created by our district. We hope it will help! As always, if you need help, please ask!
Thank you!
Buy Your Yearbook Now!
Access our yearbook sales website HERE if you would like to purchase the 2019-2020 Orchard Hill yearbook. All sales will be online this year so please do not send check or cash to the school. Yearbooks will arrive in early June and we will communicate distribution methods and times as we get closer to June.
