Welcome Back

Dear Hadfield Families,

I hope you and your family have enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled summer and are rested and energized for the upcoming school year! I am excited to be starting such a great year full of wonderful new opportunities and innovative energy. As we approach the start of the school year and getting back into the swing of things, I encourage students to write down some memories and to read, read, read! It is a great way to brush up their academic skills and prepare them for school.

We will have some new staff joining our Hadfield community. We are excited to have them on-board and as you see them, please help me welcome them to Hadfield!

  • Dan Resch - 5th Grade (transfer from Whittier)

  • Shelly Troedel - 2nd Grade (transfer from Hawthorne)

  • Caroline Michelson - School Psych (transfer from Butler)

  • Barbara Boyle - Regular Education Assistant - (transfer from Hawthorne)

  • Rachel Nimmer - 3rd Grade (New Hire)

  • Olga DeFever - Special Education Assistant - (New Hire)

  • Patricia Goodspeed - Title 1 Math

  • Tricia Perez - Title 1 Math

School Goals

Hadfield will have several instructional and building focuses with the intention of continuing to increase our students’ achievement academically, socially, and emotionally.

Goal #1: Increase our frequency of small group instruction. We believe that small groups are one of the best ways to ensure that students are getting what they need, when they need it.

Goal #2: Increase the proactive lessons around student social and emotional needs. This will be accomplished by having daily class meetings, integrated social / emotional class lessons and individual & small group learning provided by our school counselor, social worker, and psychologist.

Goal #3: Increase collaboration with regular & special education teachers. While much of this work will be playing out behind the scenes, your son or daughter may notice more staff providing lessons/ instruction and greater supports for all learners. To support this work, our Special Education teachers will be aligned by grade level.

Drop Off & Pick Procedures / School Attendance

Please be prepared for our Drop Off and Pick Up procedures for the first days of school and beyond. We have these procedures in place to provide a safe process for all of our students.

  • Parents who drop off or pick up their children are reminded to do so along Linden Street. Remember that Linden Street is one way during pick up times. Please drive cautiously in the pick up /drop area and park when your child is exiting or entering the vehicle.

  • Breakfast will be served from 8:15am - 8:30am each morning in the cafeteria. If your son or daughter is eating breakfast at school, please make sure that they arrive accordingly. Walkers or drop off should enter the main entrance beginning at 8:15.

  • In order to keep our school and children safe, no one is to enter the building until the 8:35 am entrance bell, unless they are eating breakfast. We request that you do not allow your child(ren) to arrive on school grounds until 8:15 am or later as that is when outside supervision begins.

  • The first days of school teachers will be lined up on the playground with signs so students can get into the routine of lining up and going into school in an orderly and safe fashion.

  • To assist with the morning entrance, please say good bye to your son or daughter at the building doors. This helps the student take charge of his/her own learning and makes the transition easier for all.

  • We will have all staff members getting students where they need to be, so please do not enter the building with your child unless you check into the office and receive a badge. This will minimize anxiety and traffic into the building for a safe beginning to the school year.

  • I encourage you to start talking to your child about school and setting some good routines to get them ready. This will allow them to become independent and feel comfortable and safe about starting school again.

  • Please be sure to have your student arrive on time and stay until the end of the day. Our school hours are 8:35am to 3:40pm. Research shows that students that have high attendance rates do better in school and are more successful in the future. Showing the importance of school from home is crucial in your child’s success.

Rolling Out the Red Carpet
New this school year, Hadfield will be “rolling out the red carpet” to welcome our students to school on the first day. A red carpet and balloon arch will be placed at the main entrance. Class by class, our teaching staff will lead students from the playground line up, to the front of the building via the sidewalk by our 4K playground. To help make this experience special for students, we are requesting that parents line the sidewalk leading from the playground to the flag pole and cheer the students on as they enter! If you would like a photo with your child at the entrance, please do so prior to 8:25.

Forms and Fees Day

Forms and Fees Day is Wednesday, August 22nd from 4:00-8:00pm. During Forms & Fees, families may pay fees, sign up for before / after school care, get their school picture taken, find out their teacher placements and complete the Annual Online Registration. Many families have found that completing the online registration before coming to Forms and Fees to be a significant time saver. If you need assistance accessing the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus, please contact Lori Roth at 262-970-1505 or lroth@waukesha.k12.wi.us

Our Hadfield Open House will be held Thursday, August 30th from 5:30 - 6:30. This is an opportunity for students and families to meet the teachers and bring school supplies. Some grade levels are also providing short presentations to parents. This information will be sent by grade level teams.

I am looking forward to a great year and seeing everyone soon!
