Pies for Prairie Ridge
A note from the PTO...
We are so thankful for the bountiful blessings we receive by being part of the PRE community. As we begin the hectic holiday season and head to our Thanksgiving gatherings, please take a moment to pause and show your gratitude to our amazing educators by signing up to bring a pie. Let's celebrate Prairie Ridge! Join us to give thanks.
Each employee will get to choose a pie to take home and share with their families. Homemade, store bought, pecan, apple, pumpkin - any pie is appreciated! Please label the type of pie you are donating and kindly bring baked, ready-to-eat, in a disposable container to school by 8:45 AM on Tuesday, November 20th. We will have help in the car loop between 8:30 and 8:45 AM for easy drop off. JCPRD families can bring contributions to the cafeteria and we'll transport them for you.
Grateful to PRE's teachers, paras, custodians, librarians, counselor, specials educators, nurse, lunchroom, support and office staff - let's show them we're thankFULL! No time to bake or shop? No problem. We can help! Please make monetary donations and we'll take care of it. Venmo: prefamilies PTO, send checks written to PRE PTO (with "Pies" in the memo) or label cash contributions to Prairie Ridge by Monday, November 19th. There's a lot to have gratitude for and we're thankful for your help!

Cold Weather Guidelines
Here are the cold weather guidelines that we follow:
· Full recess (and other outdoor activities) permitted when wind chill temperature is at (or above) 25 degrees and participating students are considered to be appropriately dressed;
· Fresh air breaks, of no more than 10 minutes, are permissible (according to individual teacher discretion and administrative consultation) when wind chill temperature is between 20 and 24 degrees and participating students are considered to be appropriately dressed.
· If wind chill is below 20 degrees, indoor recess.
Site Council
PRE's Site Council met again this past Tuesday. The agenda covered FastBridge Assessments, Second Step Curriculum, Parent Information/Resource Night Topics, and playgrounds. Please reach out to one of the Site Council members if you have questions about any of these topics.
Building Site Councils are required to meet four times/year. Our Site Council is a valuable part of our building as they give important feedback concerning our building goals, and they have great outside insight into changes that we make and the feedback that they hear from other parents. They also help us analyze the results from the spring parent survey and help brainstorm ideas to help make PRE the best place for student learning.

Teacher Spotlight
A little bit about Mrs. Porras's family..
I have been married for 17 years. I have two boys--Jackson is a freshman at DHS, and Lucas is in 7th grade at LTMS. We also have two puppies, Maxie and Roxie.
Mrs. Porras's's best or favorite memory of being an elementary school student:
My favorite memory from elementary school is when I was in first grade. I was new to the school and did not know anyone. On my first day of school I opened my new box of crayons and they were all crushed to what seemed thousands of pieces. I started crying! Before anyone had a chance to figure out what was wrong with me, my teacher had a new box of crayons on my desk with a smilie face sticker on the front. She gave me a hug and said she was glad I was in her class.
The best thing about teaching is...
getting to be with kids ALL day! I love to see their face when they figure something out. I love hugs and fist bumps. I just love being with them all day!
The best thing about PRE is...
the sense of community. One big, happy place! I'm so glad I get to spend my day here.
