Dress Code - Expectations
Dress Code
Clearwater Middle School (CMS) recognizes and respects individuality which can be demonstrated in several positive ways in the school environment; however, we reserve the right to bar from school, those students whose personal appearance is disruptive to the educational process and the orderly operation of the school. CMS has a specific, UNIFORM dress code.

*P.E. uniform can be purchased from Sidekicks
*School crests, ties and track suits (when available) can be purchased at the School
GIRLS: Summer Uniform from start of school and from start of Easter Term
- Blue Clearwater Polo shirt; buttoned top two buttons; covers waistline. Shirt should be tucked into their skirt or shorts.
- Navy blue A-line skirt or knee-length shorts (Max. 2" above knee in standing position).
- White knee-length socks worn up to knee throughout the school day.
GIRLS: Winter Uniform from December 1st
- White collared button-up shirt. Shirt should be tucked into their skirt or pants.
- Undershirts, if worn, must be a SOLID White colour, no words or graphics.
- Navy blue long pants or A-line skirt (Max. 2' above knee in standing position).
- Long pants must fit appropriately at the waist and may not be tight or of the "skinny" and or "legging" - style.
- Navy blue knee-length socks worn up to knee throughout the school day.
- School tie worn with 4 yellow stripes visible (obtained from school office)
- Navy blue blazer with school crest affixed.
BOYS: Summer Uniform from start of school and from start of Easter Term
- Blue Clearwater Polo shirt; buttoned top two buttons. Shirt should be tucked into their shorts/pants.
- Khaki pants (long or short). Workman's/cargo pants with external pockets are not allowed.
- Navy blue knee-length socks worn up to knee throughout the school day.
BOYS: Winter Uniform from December 1st each year
- White collared button-up shirt; covers waistline, incl. while sitting. Shirt should be tucked into their pants.
- Undershirts, if worn, must be a SOLID white colour, free of words or graphics.
- Navy blue dress trousers. Workman's/cargo pants with external pockets are not allowed.
- Navy blue knee-length socks worn up to the knee throughout the school day.
- School tie worn with 4 yellow stripes visible.
- Navy blue blazer with the school crest affixed.
PANTS must not sag, be oversized, be baggy in the seat, worn below the waist, or cover the entire shoe. Pants must be worn with a black/brown belt, if the pants have loops.
SHOES:
- Solid brown or black smooth polishable dress shoes. (no sneakers)
- Shoe heels and soles must not exceed 2" in height.
- Suede, patent leather, boots (above ankle), ballet-type slippers or sneaker type shoes are not acceptable.
- Shoes with strings must be tied, and buckles, straps, or Velcro fastened at all times.

OUTERWEAR: Sweaters, Blazers, CMS Jacket
- Blazers are a mandatory part of the winter uniform.
- Navy blue sweater can be worn on cold days (this is not a substitute for the blazer).
- Sweater must be either; crew neck, V-neck, cardigan, or vests (no hoods allowed).
- Sweater must be to-the-waist in length from all angles/sides.
- All outerwear must be worn over approved uniform shirts.
- Hats, gloves, scarves, and light jackets are NOT permissible in the classroom; they must be removed up entering the building and remain off until dismissal at 3:30 pm. Jackets will be confiscated if the student does not comply with the school policy.
BELTS & ACCESSORIES:
- Belts must either be BLACK or BROWN for all students (studs, spikes, or designs are not allowed).
- A watch may be worn on the wrist.
- Visible hair accessories (hair ribbons, ponytail holders, etc.) must be one of the following solid colours: WHITE, YELLOW, BLUE, or BLACK.
- HAIR: coloured/highlighted, distracting hair styles or cut patterns, designs (head and eyebrows) are unacceptable for all students.
- NAILS should be natural and colour-free.
- A pair of single gold, silver small studs in the lower ear lobe are allowed for females.
- ONE single gold or silver stud in the lower ear lobe is allowed for males.
- NO OTHER JEWELRY OR BODY PIERCINGS ARE ALLOWED.
- All accessories (example: jewelry or hair items) other than stated above will be CONFISCATED for a term! The first incident, the student will receive a warning. The second infraction, the item will be confiscated and a parent/guardian has to collect the item. The item will be confiscated for a term, if seen again at school. Beyond these consequences, the item will be confiscated until the end of the school year.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS DRESS CODE:
- Official CMS gym uniform or track suit.
- Plain (no text/graphics) solid blue or yellow or white t-shirt.
- Plain (no text/graphics) solid blue, yellow, or black basketball shorts to the knee.
- Fastened athletic shoes that cover the entire foot.
- Official CMS P.E. uniform can be purchased from Sidekicks.
GRUB DAY ATTIRE - EXPECTATIONS
GRUB DAYS - STUDENTS MAY NOT WEAR OR CARRY:
- Bandana; hats; headscarves; sunglasses; toy or 3-D glasses; do rags; stocking caps; sweat bands; cropped outerwear; or any non-approved CMS-affiliated spirit wear.
- Bedroom shoes, slippers, crocs, cleats or slides.
- The following tops are not permitted under any circumstances: sleeveless undershirts (white tees worn as a shirt), spaghetti strap, tight, see-through, off the shoulder/exposed shoulder, large neck-hole, bare midriff, or revealing undergarments.
- Skirts and shorts must not be shorter than the fingertip when the student's arm is extended along their side.
- Leggings/tights and jeggings may not be worn as bottom garments.
- Clothing with holes, rips, tears, are not permitted under any circumstances.
- Shirts with inappropriate graphics, play-on-words, innuendos, drugs, alcohol, or gang affiliation, etc. are not permitted under any circumstances.
- Make-up, nail polish and coloured hair or highlights is not permitted.
- No Jewelry, except for those allowed.
Clearwater Middle School administration may use their discretion in determining whether or not dress, style, or accessories are inappropriate or distracting to the educational environment. The administration also has discretion to amend the dress code if circumstances deem it necessary.
